I heard a discussion this morning about Arnold Swartz...Schwartz....ur...the governator's plan for socialized medicine in Kalifornica.
He plans to put a tax on physicians to help pay for it.
2% to start.
What effect do you think that will have?

I dunno about the effect, but considering the ridiculous amounts of money physicians get from the stupid federally-mandated HMO system and the AMA's successful campaign to keep their supply low, I'm not opposed to them getting penalized.
Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely free-market, but if one group is abusing it the state-run market, might as well punish them.
I can immediately think of two possible outcomes:
1. Doctors move out of California en masse.
2. Doctors start advocating a true free-market in health-care so they stop getting taxed.
I see the first one being much more likely.

California produces nearly a fifth of the country's GDP. Even with heavy taxes there will be plenty of doctors. Otherwise who will give the Hollywood former sexpots their collagen implants?
