The Republican National Committee has elected former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele the first black Republican National Committee chairman. Steele was the most moderate candidate in the field and was considered an outsider because he's not an RNC member. He beat back four challengers, including incumbent Mike Duncan, who was forced to withdraw from the field midway through the balloting in the face of a lack of support.

His final opponent was a member of a "whites only" country club, so it was a stark contrast.

At first I was thinking of the Michigan GOP chairman that called for Ron Paul to be "disincluded" from the debates. Saul Anuzis. Wow the name is not even close, I guess I just expected the worst from the GOP. :o

Don't make it a race issue. Michael Steele has been an up'n comer in the GOP rank'n file since he started GOPAC. Unfortunately, he's a snide bitch of a neo-con too.

All aboard the failboat.

Saul Anuzis was one of the contenders, too. :P

The GOP is dead as far as being a conservative party. This guy is a moderate. There is no party for true conservatives anymore unless it is the Constitution Party. I wish Ron Paul would leave the GOP..either start his own party or move to the Constitution Party. Conservatives have no home at the moment.

Steele is just another neocon so who cares? The Republican Party is dead!

Lets get out to all Republican blogs. Point them to the wiki page on neoconservatism. Many self identified conservatives do not know the distinction. Let's show them.

GOP can go to hell, playing the black card when we have a black President, why didn't I think of that?

Ah Steele WAS one of the one's who continually dismissed RP and I think at one point said "Stick a fork in him, he's done." before a vote was cast.
