In terms of civil liberties and openness of government, they are.

Economics is what is going to doom us.

Lol. It's one of my favorite places to go knock the heads of painfully conventional thinkers together.

Sounds like cocoa-nuts. And, no, I don't mean coconuts. I mean cocoa-nuts. You know--like Dubya.

When people are faced with tragedy of epic and long-lasting proportions, it is a natural psychological reaction to try and find some measure of good in life or to focus on small hopes. Those who fail to do so are swept away in a sea of hopeless depression, and probably already killed themselves during middle school, so they didn't join the Cato Institute. Its a little bit Darwinian.

There are a lot of libertarians at the obama forum (http://www.theobamaforum.com) that are posting supportive messages.

That's because they aren't actually libertarians.

CATO is right in their recommendations but Obama isn't about to start pushing sensible counter-terrorism strategies. He is owned by the military-industrial complex, just like his predecessor.

I don't think it's so much naivete as desperation! ;)

Well, now you have.

Of course, I doubt if it is going to come to anything. He'll probably go straight back to gestapo tactics once the economy fails in order to "keep the ship of state from sinking" like his good buddy Lincoln. That is, unless his cult of personality is strong enough that everyone loves him like FDR.

Obama's "openness" agenda is nothing more than a facade meant to placate. Meanwhile the centralization of corporate interest-controlled powers continues unabated.

Proof? I haven't seen any reports to that effect. All I have seen has been positive, or just unsourced bluster.

Not the REAL libertarians. I wonder how many of them Slate DIDN'T even bother to poll or ask, since there are NO libertarian spokespersons.

Now hold on.

As someone stated before not all of Obama's ideas are bad. He has a very good outlook on the war on drugs. His rhetoric on what someone should be told they can and can't do is very good.

But.

His ideas on what governments purpose should be in all of this, and his knowledge of free markets and regulatory ideas are moronic.

Just because someone thinks that a bad person has some good points doesn't mean they are falsly saying who they are.

For instance. Anyone who is a pro-lifer is not a Libertarian.

Or at least not on that topic. It's hard to say someone is all this or all that. We're all a little bit of a lot of things. It's what makes us individuals.
