None of those currencies are backed by anything. And they are all complementary currencies on par with the dollar.

it is still printig.

is the one based on hours worked backed by your "work" whatever it may be? could this equalize the value difference between the ceo and the janitor?

what should communities of various population, knowledge base, and resources do to "compete" with the dollar.

there has never been enough specie to go around, so i was told...

?

Ithaca Hours are based on one 'hour' of work. I think they have it pegged at $10 though, so really they're just pegging it to the dollar. Though the 'spirit' of it is that everyone should work at the $10 rate.

No one knows what communities can do exactly. We can tell when someone presents a plan what won't work usually, but trying to devise a theory of strategy is one of those 'silver bullet/holy grail/gordian knot' problems.
