My best friend's Dad and I have been talking about politics from time to time. He is a 50 yr. old school teacher. Typical mainstream democrat and a FDR lover, but one hell of a nice guy. He loves that I talk to his son about politics because he thinks it's an area his son has has needed to grow in order to become an adult.

Somewhere along the line I realized this guy knows absolutely about what we talk about all the time: Sound money, the hazard of malinvestment, etc. He can only quote the stuff we hear day in and day out on the news as if I had never heard it. I just close my mouth, smile and listen respectfully... Every time we talk he says how amazed he is by the subjects I study in my personal time.

I normally wouldn't go out of my way to "change" a man of his age, but every time I go over there he will talk to me about new political subjects where he knows we agree, then moves to subjects where we will disagree. I am getting the impression that he's not just trying to encourage a friendly debate, but to get me to reveal more about what I know.

What I'm looking for is a good article(s) on the web that may have the potential to really turn him on to the subjects we're interested in. I need something that explains a little bit of history of the dollar in the 20th century and how it has led to the bailout. I want him to understand the basics of Austrian economics and how free markets are not the culprit of our financial woes. I could probably give it a good stab on my own, but blabbering facts and throwing books at people has never delivered good results in my experience (don't we wish all Ron Paul supporters understood that!). I have had a lot more luck using baby steps that entice people to do their own research. What they do with it at that point is inevitable.

I'm looking for articles that would take an average person less than 20 minutes to read. They must be in document form, interesting and credible (e.g. Lew Rockwell).

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

Next time you head over there be reading a copy of "Economics in One Lesson" and JUST happen to be on the last page....give it to him.

Also check out the "bailout" primer on mises website. http://mises.org/story/3128
