Sheep
By: Pink Floyd

Harmlessly passing your time in the grassland away;
Only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air.
You better watch out,
There may be dogs about
I've looked over Jordan, and I have seen
Things are not what they seem.

What do you get for pretending the danger's not real.
Meek and obedient you follow the leader
Down well trodden corridors into the valley of steel.
What a surprise!
A look of terminal shock in your eyes.
Now things are really what they seem.
No, this is not a bad dream.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
He makes me down to lie
Through pastures green He leadeth me the silent waters by.
With bright knives He releaseth my soul.
He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places.
He converteth me to lamb cutlets,
For lo, He hath great power, and great hunger.
When cometh the day we lowly ones,
Through quiet reflection, and great dedication
Master the art of karate,
Lo, we shall rise up,
And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water.

Bleating and babbling we fell on his neck with a scream.
Wave upon wave of demented avengers
March cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream.

Have you heard the news?
The dogs are dead!
You better stay home
And do as you're told.
Get out of the road if you want to grow old.

The smart ones in the group will understand the allagory here, the rest are, well, the sheep.

Yeah, you have to be a real brainiac to get how profound rock bands are.

I enjoy it when people elevate themselves from others using someone else's words. Nothing says independence like "I find this guy so profound, and everyone else should too!" Inactive dissent is just as effective as complacency. If this is your way of awakening people, you're no less a sheep than the ones you accuse. You just whine a little louder when you're being sheared.

Yeah, you have to be a real brainiac to get how profound rock bands are.

All bands are not created equal. Pink Floyd has, for decades, been upgrading ignoramouses by snaring them with great music, causing them to memorize great lyrics, and waiting for the ticking time bomb they thusly created to go off. I'll never forget the day I got back from class to discover my roommates trying to tell me that I must listen to the lyrics of The Wall and discover what I had known for years. They didn't look happy with me when I started telling them, yeah, it's an amazing trip through neurosis. And Shine On You Crazy Diamond is an amazing trip through the mental health system, and Animals through the business side of the music industry and power/money in general...

They got over it, though.

Yeah, Pink Floyd. Making heavy metal safe for brainiacs for over forty years, now, and bless their hearts for it!

Great song. Although, Roger Waters is a bleeding heart liberal.

It takes all kinds to make the world go 'round. I don't mind bleeding heart liberals one bit--outside of government. We could probably use more in the clergy...

The smart ones in the group will understand the allagory here, the rest are, well, the sheep.

Once again, the idea that the shepherd leads from the front of the flock is a fallacy. The shepherd leads from the middle of the flock because of how he or she is burdened. That burden is to keep the weak stragglers from falling too far behind the flock as it is also to keep the strong ones from getting too far ahead of it.
The strong leadership by the rams is a false leadership utilized by the shepherd who is only burdened with the overall general direction the flock is headed towards.
So, the shepherd is submissive in how he or she follows after the leading rams but also steers them from the middle; while, he or she also serves as the leading ram for those weaker lambs who fall behind.

Yeah, Pink Floyd. Making heavy metal safe for brainiacs for over forty years, now, and bless their hearts for it!

If nothing else, Pink Floyd belittled heavy metal having started off as a psychodelic band under Syd Barrett. Their concept of "what heavy metal might sound like if it were played by Pink Floyd" was expressed in "The Dark Side of the Moon" after Syd Barrett moved on.
Actually, the easy, slow pace of the symphonic, multi-leveled music that Pink Floyd became famous went against the fast pace of the music during the timultuous times of the Vietnam war.

True, they started out as more of a rhythm and blues band and then morphed into what they are today. Waters is a genius.

After just listening to Ron Paul on MSNBC this morning . . .

I'm playing this in the background while online much more from now on . . .
the calming melody helps my revolution fighting for the constitution.

Us and Them

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlY-JlE5ZCo

----------------------------

"Us And Them" - The Dark Side of the Moon - 1973

Us . . . and Them . . . and after all we're only ordinary men

Me . . . and You . . . God only knows it's not what we would choose - to do

"Forward" he cried from the rear, and the front rank died
The General he sat, and the lines on the map moved from side to side
black . . . and blue . . . and who knows which is which . . . and who is who

Up . . . and Down . . . and in the end it's only round and round . . . and round

"Haven't you heard it's a battle of words", the poster bearer cried

"Listen son", said the man with the gun, "there's room for you inside"

Down . . . and Out . . . it can't be helped, if there's a lot of it about

With . . . Without . . . and who'll deny it's what the fightings all about

Out of the way, it's a busy day and I've things on my mind

For want of the price, of tea and a slice, the old man died

Another group you might appreciate as well ,is the moody blues. They have a style all there own and most of there lyrics are deep compared to the typical rock songs.

Heres a example from one of there songs called - In the beginning

first man: I think, I think I am, therefore I am, I think.

Establishment: of course you are my bright little star,
Ive miles
And miles
Of files
Pretty files of your forefathers fruit
And now to suit our
Great computer,
Youre magnetic ink.

First man: Im more than that, I know I am, at least, I think I must be.

Inner man: there you go man, keep as cool as you can.
Face piles
And piles
Of trials
With smiles.
It riles them to believe
That you perceive
The web they weave
And keep on thinking free

That song is great! The intro poem was inspiring. Thanks!

Check out The Misunderstood - Children of the Sun ...Its like a continuation of In the Beginning.

CHILDREN OF THE SUN (Hill, Brown, Whiting, Campbell & Moe: The Misunderstood, UK, 1966)

Lyrics by R. Brown

Let go lovely children
Close your eyes and drift away
When you wake again tomorrow
You'll be born again to stay
Thus the word of love has spoken

You've joined the children of the Sun
You've joined the children of the Sun

Relax yourselves and drift
Into the regons of your mind
As understanding glows before you
All thats left of you is kind
Thus the word of love has spoken

You've joined the children of the Sun
You've joined the children of the Sun

another good one of theirs is called
I Could Take you to the SUN

alright alright alright, dig it :)
