Did the fact that JFK was assassinated have anything to do with Goldwater losing the Presidential election?

I'm not old enough to remember, but I'm curious now that you mention it. Hope some of our older friends answer this. ~bump~

I wasn't alive at the time. But reading up on it some it seems likely.

JFK and Goldwater agreed to travel around the country and debate each other. I'm not sure if that caused Goldwater to lose, but it was sure a great loss to intelligent public discourse.

In 1964 the clueless sheeple electorate still existed....voters were just as irresponsible as they are today.

Decades ago the only information available was what the media reported. Now the Net exists and information is not only widely available, it's free.

Goldwater is one of the few people that went to Washington that I liked... And he died before I was born!

“Hubert Humphrey talks so fast that listening to him is like trying to read Playboy magazine with your wife turning the pages.”

I like to replace "Hubert Humphrey" with "Ben Bernanke" so that it applies to today. :D

Goldwater would not have won anyway. There was a move away from his Cold War fanaticism symbolized by JFKs heroic struggle for the July 63 test ban treaty against massive Corporate Media opposition. After the assassination no one dared this anymore, because the CIA was the prez. Nixon leanrned this the hard way.

I doubt if Goldwater would have won, but it would have been much closer. Texas, Florida, Virginia and possibly California would have gone Goldwater over Kennedy.

and there would not have been the huge loss in safe seats; the result being Medicaid and Medicare. Kennedy could never have passed that shit.

almost surely the assassination of RFK elected Nixon. and RFK would have been worse than LBJ.
