Sorry, i just have to vent. I just got off the phone with my grandmother, whom i love dearly... but some of the things she says just drive me up a wall.

My family were hardcore Bill Clinton supporters. They have framed photos of him hanging in their hallways, i kid you not. I can't even go to the restroom without Slick Willy's sneering grin looking down on me. Gag me.

I just managed to ask my grandma if she had any idea who Ron Paul is. Her response? "I know he was in some movie, wasn't he?" ACK!

We were talking about financial aid. She started going on about "You know, Hillary is the one who would send you back to school and have the Federal Government give you grants to cover all of it."

So i got her talking about whether she thinks the war should end. She agreed with me and said that Hillary wants it to end! Argh! She insisted that Barack Obama is the one with the nefarious financers and that Hillary is clean as a whistle.

And then she started on her greatest reason for supporting Hillary - Because, she insisted, that Bill Clinton would "have his hands in everything she did!" Voting for Hillary is as she called it "Buy one Get one free!" I told her that was ridiculous... by her logic then Laura Bush is running the war right now! Argh!

Then, thank God, my cellphone battery died. I couldn't take much more of that nonsense.

Anyways... has anyone here ever dealt with this argument before? Whats the best way to refute it? I'll never convince them that Bill was a crook... but what the hell kind of argument is "Buy one get one free?!?!?" How can i promote Ron Paul to someone who only looks at the face of every issue and doesn't want to think about the details??

I have never and hope to god I never have to...

Would almost seem like a lost cause at that point with the framed pictures and all.. I know they're your grandparents and everything but you can probably find a more productive use for your time.

You can't. Its called willful ignorance. I like Ron Paul and fully support him. I won't be putting his picture on my wall any time soon though. Thats a little too "Dear Leader" for me thanks.

This is my experience with the oldfarts. All they care about is medicare. I can't get my father in front of a computer so I bought a small dvd hand held player and had him watch loose change. They first have to realize that the government is corrupt regardless of party. Too much information and he was still skeptical.

So the next dvd was the money masters since they all worship money. This is where he turned around and had only watched the first disc.

By the way, this dvd should be mandatory for every history teacher and student....and every person on this forum.

Hillary is my senator. I believe she missed the vote conveniently on bankruptcy reform because her backers were the credit card companies and the other crooks on Wall St.

You ought to tell your grandma that Hillary gets her funding from the same people on Wall St. that used to donate to the republicans that opposed Bill. Hillary is NOT for the little person, and college money isn't "free" -- it's theft from other people.

I convinced my mom not to vote for Hillary. My dad is more difficult, because he hates the republican party. I have a tough time separating RP from the other idiots in the republican party that ruined what the party once was.

yeah, i know. they're my family but for the life of me i don't understand their logic. these people are relatively intelligent, though not the most educated people. Its insane.

anyone have any suggestions are far as Ron Paul speeches, materials, etc.. i could perhaps send them? My grandma doesn't even have a DVD player so i'd have to get a VHS of youtube videos...LOL.

If anything, i'd just be happy to convince them NOT to vote at all.

You can't do it all at once.

People like that have on mental armor.

Your job is to start chinking it.

Plant a seed every time you talk to her.

That is true.. It depends on who you're talking to.. I work with a really nice guy, but he truly believes in universal healthcare and all the socialist propaganda that goes along with it. I tried to debate him on it but he's been unwilling to budge.. So, I tried another tactic.. I have him reading my copy of "The Creature from Jeckly Island" and NOW he's coming around!! This book has been my "in" with him.. Maybe you just need to try another aproach? Not head-on debate, but find something else compelling that Ron Paul supports..

The buy one get one free argument is easy to refute. If you do not want one clinton then two has to be worse.

The trick is to convince her of the latter point. As a grandmom she should be concerned about the debt that is passed on to your generation and your grandchildren.

If you lived very lavishly now and did it by running up all of your credit cards and then taking the zero balance transfers while working full time to just pay the mininums, what would her advice be?

If she is smart she would say, "You are just living for today, you can't sustain that level of debt, it will eventually catch up to you and ruin your life!" If she supports you running up your credit cards, end the argument and borrow her credit card.

Well, if she thinks passing debt forward is a bad policy for you, why is it good for Hillary? When you add in the little nugget about the inflation tax, aka printing money out of thin air to support wars and welfare, it should be a clear case.
