I hope it was some conscientious pilot unloading bombs at a safe target. I'm reading stories about some pilots that are bombing empty fields and refusing to bomb the city.

A common genocidal tactic is to bomb historic sites, national treasures, and graveyards. The reason being they are trying to demoralize the populous and eliminate their culture. Without an ethnic identity, the target groups come apart a lot quicker.

What I don't understand about this whole issue, and specifically people apologizing for Israel, is what does Israel intend to accomplish from this?

Unless they are going to wipe out all of the Palestinians in the area, the number of terrorists being created by having loved ones killed and maimed is many times greater than the damage they are doing to Hamas.

How many rockets will be fired when Israel pulls out? Or do they intend to stay and kill everyone?
