Love the guy. Wish I was in his district.

OKLAHOMA CITY - State Rep. Charles Key thinks that political parties ought
to have to pay for their own presidential primaries in Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma City Republican filed a bill Tuesday that would
make any political party with a contested presidential primary
election pay a proportionate amount towards that election
date's cost. The state spends approximately $3 million on
primary elections, he said.
"There are more important places for that money to go in this
current budget climate," Key said. "Nationwide, only 21
percent of taxpayers participate in presidential primaries.
Why should the other 80 percent have to pick up the cost?"
The state election board would still conduct the election and
would be authorized to change the date to be in line with
other states in the region. The bill, if approved, would make
the law effective by Nov. 1, 2009.
"There will be no change to how the primaries are conducted,
except for who pays for them," Key said. "I think it is the
kind of common-sense legislation that most Oklahomans
support."
