I think it's a symptom of our socialist country. Along with out-of-control overhead, leech workers, unions and politically correctness. In Atlas Shrug, it was who you knew not what you knew. How many times have you heard that in your life? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for skill-based networking, just not crony-based networking.

Are you talking about backstabbers and such? I don't know, I just think that's human nature. I don't believe in Utopia, no matter how perfect our government is or ever will be, there will still be untrustworthy people.

Ugh, it makes me sick.

Especially the PC crap.

I think it's why the Big Three "need" a bailout. They're all Dilbertian nightmares.

Backstabbing and also kissing up for the sake of it, undue favoritism, etc. Now, I agree that an owner of a company can allow whatever he/she wants inside the company. Usually, however, you won't find many owners allowing this to take place, it's usually the midde-management that seem to allow it the most due to their detached stake in the company's success.

Also, I tend to think that one feeds off another. For instance, when companies are afraid to fire employees due to politically correct reasons, employees realize they can't get away with more bullshit than they could before.

Two things that will take you far within organizations: (1) immediate execution without questions the directives coming from the top...(2) the ability to keep secrets. The rest is just bullshit and window dressings; know your place serf: everybody is a cog and always replaceable, no matter where they may be on the hierarchy. There is only one sin--failure.

If you can stomach-this/enjoy, have a dark-heart and the will-to-execute, their 'world' is your oyster.

Been there, done that...wasted much of my time/life :(, but now I have found my own path: ronin. And understand the concept of Me, Inc.--scratch an American, what do you find? A Pirate :)

You can cite me if you choose, ie. my experience...

From my experience, it tends to happen much more in larger companies. In small companies, one has to wear a lot of hats and if you do not produce, it's VERY noticeable and you're out of there. Just as it should be.

it happens no matter where you work and what you do....and it matters not what political system you have....it's not fun, but I suppose we all have to deal with it, one day.....sadly, it has the potential to make friends and enemies faster than anything else (IMHO).

I definitely believe that the socialist Labor regulations, laws, etc. INCREASE it exponentially.

Here in Australia - you need to get 3 warnings, official - before you can get fired. For alot of people, that is a lot of fcken around. And they probably spend that time playing office politics.

Learning how to be the best parasite, and not best producer.

But it also goes to say - the BEST employers, Boss', CEO's etc who choose people on PRODUCTION and not ass kissing etc will be BETTER than those who do not. They'll exceed them in the market. :)

Well, I'm definitely glad to know that I'm not alone thinking that our workforce is fcked up beyond repair. I just don't know why people don't work for work's sake. Why don't people gain pleasure from "doing a good job" anymore?

I told one of my co-workers that we're catching up on our work and she said I hope we don't catch up too much because I'm the lowest on the totem pole. Ugh. These fcking people think they deserve a job! They put their benefit above the company's. I've gotten laid off before and swallowed it and moved on.

I've had 6 or 7 jobs in my life and each one of them I've worked my ass off and felt good "excelling" at what I did even if it was bagging groceries. Why are there so many socialist workers employed? Oh that's right, most Americans are socialists.

I LOVE working, I just hate office politics. The places I have worked have been INSANE when it comes to OP. Lawfirms are the worst. I put up with months of bullying from a legal assistant because her boss was a partner attorney and was basically invisible. If she didn't get her work done, then it was my fault because at the time I was just a pesky file clerk that was supposed to help all of the legal assistants in the firm mostly with filing legal documents.

My boss who was the office manager was aware of it all, and had her hands tied as she was aware of the evilness of this woman and her boss. My boss hated these two women as much as I did but could not do anything because when it came down to it, the Partner owned stock in the firm and could not be fired. I was often told that "shit runs downhill" and so on.

That place we often referred to it as the dark side when we had to go over to her side of the building. There were literally alliances within the company. If the office manager liked you then you were under her wing and pretty much protected. If the Partner liked you then you were basically invisible. If none liked you then you were screwed. The managing partner of the firm was oblivious and was the type to just fire you because it was easier than sorting out the problem...which were the two bitches. LOL To this day, even tho that was YEARS ago I still hate those two women with a passion. I hope they die in a fire one day! Bitchesss!!!!!

Oh and as for working for works sake, at the time that was a really good paying job. I had full comp benefits and was making a really nice salary with plenty of holidays to boot. When it came down to it I NEEDED the job to pay my bills. Doing what I love doesn't pay the bills.

lol... maybe that's a good selling point in an interview.

I believe in the free market. I believe I should EARN my living and I don't expect nor want handouts... I believe in efficiency, effectiveness and productivity. I strive to apply that to my personal work, as well as my life. etc

Thanks for the advice! I might have to use that soon. My company is now considering bankruptcy.
