I ran across this article (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/12/us/politics/12obama.html?_r=1) about Obama's studying FDR's first 100 days, more particularly on FDR's language (in speechs and "fire-side chats).

"Mr. Obama had studied the way Franklin D. Roosevelt approached the first 100 days of his presidency, and in particular had seized on the notion of Roosevelt having a “conversation with the American public” to try to prepare it for a difficult time. He has, aides said, even looked at the words Roosevelt used and the tone he struck."

This rang a bell in my head of a panel discussion I watched last year entitled "Orwell Comes to America: The Science of Manipulation" which Frank Luntz was a panelist. A good portion of discussion is focused on FDR's language in his fireside chats to convince the people he needed to do the things he did.

Watch the panel, it's quite interesting hearing these people explain the techniques that are used to get the masses or if you like, the sheep, to do/accept what they want them to.

oh yeah, don't forget to yell, FU FRANK!!!!!! ;)

Yep, Obama seems to be following his Old Deal plan

Fireside Chat 2.0
Obama's plans to adapt FDR's model to address today's economy.
By John Dickerson

In an effort to educate the public on the state of the economy and his plans for improving it, President Obama is considering a series of short televised addresses similar to Franklin Roosevelt's fireside chats. Press Secretary Robert Gibbs has told the television networks that the administration may request more time than usual for a president. Gibbs did not provide a schedule but described the addresses as lasting about 10 minutes each.

It doesn't matter if the people agree with him or not.
The gov't/him will do it anyways.

At the risk of Godwining it I believe Hitler also used those tactits.

Did FDR use "uhh" or "umm" a lot?
