View Full Version : An Alternative to Townhall?

So, I've been thinking.. I could set up a Web 2.0 community website, similair to Townhall that would be geared towards liberty-minded people. Libertarians, Indepedents, Conservatives, Liberals.. anyone, really.. We've all noticed Townhall is filled with neocons.. So why not have our own online community?

It would offer free blogs, forums & photo albums.. I could have it up in a matter of weeks using a platform called Community Server.

Would anyone be interested in such a site?

Also, what would we call it? I was thinking something along the lines of "townwhore.com" but the domain's taken.. (joking)

What do you all think?

It's kinda fun to go over to Townhall and debate with them. However, I suppose they could always come over here.:D

Yeah but that's not a home. AFAIK there is nothing like this for us. There's Lew Rockwell's blog.. That's about the closest I can think of.

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. Neocons have their own little communities, so do the liberals. We should have our own.

Of course the site would be pro-ron but i'd like to keep it a little more broad than that good suggestion tho.. hmm

yea, but it sucks.

We should aim to be the liberty/freedom dailykos in terms of technology & audience.

Reason looks like a magazine website, not an online community..

liberty4all.net sounds good

if we get a few good ones i'll put up a poll

Little suggestion. Don't use words like freedom or liberty in the name. A lot of people will be turned off by a site with that in it's domain name. Townhall sounds like a nice place and doesn't just spell out that it is a neo-con site. Daily Kos is liberal but you wouldn't know it from the name. I think that coming up with a name that people can relate to or something that gives them a good feeling like puppy dogs or sunshine.

We shouldn't just spell out what we are in the site domain because I feel that it would make some people feel unwelcome. We want a neutral political site that we can flood with pro-liberty messages.

Freerepublic is taken, but I would totally take it if it was available. Humm, how about restoretherepublic.com ... taken, darn it. Freedomrepublic is a domain you could buy however.

Actually, I think you make a very good point.. Any names you can think of that may be.. subversively liberty-orientend? :)

Not off the top of my head. I'll try to think about some throughout the day.

hmm... yeah maybe something with "independent" or "indy" would work well? or is that too revealing too?

I actually like watercooler.com. My son's room sounds like a child porn site so I would steer clear of that one.
