What other sorts of things are people doing? Simply not having health insurance is the most obvious one, but what happens then if a major health problem comes up? What about children? What other possibilities are people utilizing?

Sell your soul... I gave away mine awhile back, and now I realize how much of an idiot I was for not contracting for insurance as part of the deal.

Edit: Removed. HSAs are nice. Use the saved money to self-insure.

I personally have catastrophic insurance coverage and a health savings plan.

Thanks to Dr. Paul for that legislation.

Also try a raw, organic, vegan diet. You will very likely not neccessitate any sort of major medical procedures (cancer, heart disease, diabetes), and most everything else has relatively easy and natural cures.

You might want emergency medical insurance in case of a bad accident. It's pretty cheap.

The Health Saving Plan is very interesting.

I am not pushing a stock, but I own stock in a company called National Health Partners (http://http://www.nationalhealthpartners.com/) , they offer Carexpress memberships (http://http://www.carexpresshealth.com/Carexpresshealth/index-main.asp?) from $10 to $40 monthly.

It is a pay as you go service that lets people go to over 1 million healthcare providers because National health parnters negotiates deals with the big name networks. You then get a discount on whatever service you get. It saves providers money because they do not have to file insurance paperwork and all the hassle along with that.

Their business is actually doing quite well, announcing positive cash flow expected in March (http://http://nationalhealthpartners.com/press/pr1-02252009.htm).

Small businesses are looking for ways to offer something to employees. Catasprophic and a savings membership is cheaper than insurance.

I do my own surgery. It saves a lot of $. Doctors are highly overrated. :)

6 months negotiating with insurance company whether their diagnosis counts as a "pre-existing" condition.

Shortly followed by either bankruptcy or death.

Also found article about network memberships out of Nevada. Not sure how good National Health Partners is compared to these small ones across the country, but the idea is out there.

+1, except for vegan. Humans are omnivores. No processed sugar or processed foods.
