Pretty crazy.

Shawn Goldsmith has accomplished a rare feat for a Boy Scout — he earned all 121 merit badges available. You only need 21 to get the title "Eagle" Scout. "If I run into a stranger, there's definitely something to talk about. I have 121 topics to talk about," he says when asked why he did it.

I know many believe the scouts to be a nationalistic type organization. There is the stain of gay exclusion also.

I was a scout. I loved every bit of it. It allowed me to learn many different things from many different individuals.

It also taught me the fundamentals of this countries founding, brotherhood and anarchism.

Grats to him on level 70. Hope he starts farming bosses soon.

Ahh the flag. Maybe because it is a multi-national organization.

LOL. Yeah took me a sec to see that, which is why I posted the Turkish scouts symbol. Though I don't know why there is a shamrock in the background of that.

Actually I disagree. I was a scout at an Episcopalian church. I was taught architecture by a gay man. Didn't know he was gay at the time. He came out about 6 months after I got my merit badge. He didn't hit on me or any of my fellow scouts, but, because he admitted it he was gay he was ousted from the church and the scouts.

O.K. it only took a sec. Thought it was a debate about gays and boy scouts and such. Glad many others on this forum have had a positive response from it. I truly believe it was a good thing. My nephews are Eagles. Partly because I stayed on their ass because I missed out.:)

I was just curious why there is an Israeli flag behind him.

I mean, I can understand the American flag and the state flag, which I presume is the other flag there, but why, of all the countries on this earth, is the flag of Israel back there too?

I would guess because he is of Jewish descent. As I've pointed out Scouts are an international organization. If I had received an Eagle Scout award while in an Episcopalian Church troop chances are there would be an Episcopalian flag in the background.

All Boy Scout troops are tied to a local organization, usually a church or a synagogue. It is my assumption that this guys' troop was probably a Jewish troop.

That's one hell of a lot of work, to get them all. It's not like you can go to summer camp for 4 weeks and get every single badge. You have to find leaders in scouting who teach each merit badge, to give you hands-on experience with each skill. Then you have to meet all of the objective skill requirements of each badge, and finally take a test proving your mastery of the skill. That takes a lot of discipline. While most of your buddies in the troop are burning snakes and playing with magnesium, you are running around doing something productive. Rifle shooting, wilderness survival, basket weaving, wood working, there are some very practical skills for a young person to learn. I say, good for him!

As far as the jewish flag in the background, it is probably because he is part of a jewish troop. Myself and 2 other people from my secular troop went to a national jamboree, so we got placed into a muslim troop since we were all from the same state. They had their various regalia but always made us feel welcome.
