Has anyone else had their meetup hijacked? http://www.meetup.com/kentuckyliberty/

I use the word hijacked in the most liberal sense. I am not trying to accuse anyone of wrongdoing, just that this meetup was originally a Ron Paul meetup. Now it has a survivalism, anti commie bent.

The person paying for the meetup has the choice to change it as they wish. They have the admin rights. Maybe the organizer felt the time had past for peaceful resolution.:D

If they gave up their Ron Paul Meet Up status you could always reform one of your own.

It just turns my stomach though. I have friends that I have introduced to this meetup, and I am embarrassed.

Seems to me it would be a little more embarrassing if the meet up kept on promoting RP for President since the election is over. What would you rather see them do? Dissolve and all go home to lick their wounds?

AND...why the hell are YOU sharing information about a meet up that has made it's contents and activities private only to it's members?

Um...because it fucking worries me. Why are you not concerned?

Ron Paul is out, no point in a meetup group named Ron Paul meetup group. And from what I see, they are not at all as you describe. The meet up group description and about us page looks very sincere.

Those of us involved in the Louisville Ron Paul 2008 Meetup Group are an eclectic mix of individuals who are passionate about freedom, the Constitution, government reform, and citizen involvement; and last but not least, we are passionate about our favored candidate, Ron Paul.

"Congressman Ron Paul is the leading advocate for freedom in our nation's capital. As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Dr. Paul tirelessly works for limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies. He is known among his congressional colleagues and his constituents for his consistent voting record. Dr. Paul never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution. In the words of former Treasury Secretary William Simon, Dr. Paul is the "one exception to the Gang of 535" on Capitol Hill." -- ronpaul2008.com

This movement isn't all about Ron Paul, it's about educating people and raising awareness.

Your worried about people who want to protect their liberty against a tyranncal government? Perhaps you are confused and think you are on the Obama website.

I worry that over-the-top emails from a meetup group that had politically active libertarian leaning individuals will turn them off to being involved.

The following was sent out to our meetup:

"If you have a member of your subgroup promoting socialist ideas, being them to the attention of the whole meetup. We need to weed out commie scum."

Don't get me wrong, I am a big advocate of capitalism, etc., but this is over the top.

Anyway, I have since quit the meetup. I encourage everyone in this meetup to quit. This is horsehockey.

No one is asking you to leave this website. :)

I would leave the meetup group too if they acted like that. Why don't you start another meetup group that promotes everything an ideal RP meetup group would minus what you dislike about this group.

Good luck.
