View Full Version : A Patriots Call...For Help

It was suggested by a fellow meetup group member that I post this here. Only upon their suggestion I am doing so. If this is not the proper place or if you feel that I should not have this here, then I will take it down.

I am a member of the Memphis Ron Paul Meetup Group. I don't respond a lot. I am more of a sponge when you guys talk and I read almost every word all of you say.

But this time I am speaking out and I'm asking for your help if you
can offer it.

We are an asphalt maintenance company and as the economy has faltered,
so has our business. We had in excess of $100,000 in business cancel
their contracts on us at the end of the year. We are about to lose our
home, the lights will only be on for a few more days, as will the gas.

Between the two of us, my husband and I have put out between 200-300
job applications. Even with decent education, good training, & loads
of experience, we cannot find work here in the Memphis area. No one in
my family has the space to house us and our 5 children (sons ages 10,
7, 5, & 3 and a 1 year old daughter). We cannot get an apartment
because there is no income right now and the apartments that we have
contacted will not house us because our family would cause a fire code
violation with 7 of us in a 3 bedroom apartment.

To avert total devastation and try to keep the lights on until we are
forced to leave our home sometime in February, I have done copious
amounts of research and learned to make beneficial, therapeutic,
natural soap and other products.

I'm not asking anyone for money. I'm not asking anyone to "give" me
anything. All I am asking is that you go and take a look at our
website and order if you feel that our soaps would be of use to you
consider placing an order. If you do not, then please pass on the
website to everyone you know and maybe, just maybe we will make it
through until one of us can find a job.

We are trying to get our soaps into WholeFoods but we need UPC codes
which are $90 each and for the 10 products that they would like to
carry, that would be $900. They are interested I just do not have the
funds to purchase the UPC's.

Please take a look at the website. I only thought to do this because
my "friends" at the DailyPaul have been supportive today and I have
gotten an order because we were discussing what to do when a job is
lost or that we should contact our local "support group" when things
get tough and help each other. If I can do anything for any of you,
please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Jennifer

UPDATE:

I just thought that I would let all of you guys know what is going on!
My husband was finally called back about a job and will be starting in the next two weeks. We are slightly relieved but still don't know if it will pay the bills or if the house situation is going to work or not (won't know for 3 more weeks if we are going to get a loan mod or not). Regardless it is more money than we had, so I will continue to push this business to fill in the gaps.

I have several new products that are going to be coming out:

Lip balm for those with cold sores
Body Parfaits (lotion and aloe)
Love Dust (honey and vanilla powder) to be used with feather dusters...for Valentine's...or any other time.
Massage Candles that you melt next to your bath and then the special waxes never exceed a certain temperature and can be poured directly onto the skin for massage.

Thank you so much for your support. Please continue to pass our info on to your friends.

For those of you that have purchased items: Thank you! And I need testimonials for the website! If you have enjoyed our products or if they have helped you in any way, please post here or you can send me a private message or email. You don't have to put your name on anything for the website we will use your initials, city, & state. As many as possible would be wonderful! Thanks!

My husband actually likes the Lemongrass and Sage or the Herbal Citrus. I also have an unscented that isn't on the site yet if you just want a "clean" soap smell.

You must add a quantity. Someone else noticed it yesterday. The website is relatively new. Still working out kinks.

You should just be able to enter the quantity and then hit "Add to Cart"

Jennifer, PM me.

I want to know who you're talking to at Whole Foods. I might be able to help you.

Are you talking to one store, or the region? Memphis is close to 3 regions, so let me know which region.

10 is a lot to start with. Start with your top 3 or 4 SKU's, get UPCs and then expand your line.

And Whole Foods sells bulk soaps. You wouldn't need a UPC code if you can structure your products to be sold as bulk items instead of per item.

This might be outside the box, but it seems that there may be somebody in that area that may need some asphalt too....:)
I think this type of thing is what's going to make or break this movement. We need to concentrate on doing business within our community, and maybe even trading in services/whatever instead of cash if possible. Everytime you buy from within our community, that's just that much less some socialist or neocon is going to have.

Oh, bye the way, hats of to you and your abili8ty/willingness to make and sell stuff in hard times, says a lot about your character!:)

Couldn't agree with you more, BOJO68! Doing business within our own community could make this movement more cohesive, and bring more unity. I wonder how this can be set up in a systematic and voluntary fashion. Perhaps a page on RPF citing goods and services . Any suggestions?

Well, technically, we don't do asphalt itself.

We crackfill, seal coat, stripe and are actually a legit company in the area that is bombarded with travelers (aka gypsies).

No, I don't have specific ideas, but the idea is out there, and my bet is there's a lot of creative types here, and we'll have lots of ideas coming in soon!:) It might be a good idea to get a specific subsection for it though....:)

Order placed!

I find myself in a situation like yours. I sell a very popular chicken coop/ark plan at my website http://www.CatawbaCoops.com. I think you'll find an article I wrote about the future of informal business in America very eye opening.

http://www.catawbacoops.com/why-not-start-your-own-chicken-coop-business.html

I used to be a founding partner and the training manager for ShipOnSite, a national packing and shipping center and eBay Trading Assistant. We noticed the economic slowdown last spring when our prospective storeowners were having more and more difficulties getting loans to open new locations.

By July, there were no new stores in the works! This is a bad thing when the vast majority of my income relied on opening new stores.

Last summer I built a chicken ark based on a european design that is hundreds of years old. I just updated it to take advantage of off the shelf lumber from Lowes or Home Depot. Currently I sell 3-5 sets of plans a day on my site.

Granted, I'm not getting rich by any means. But since my house and cars are paid off, it provides me with enough income that I can stay home with the wife and daughters, and work on my gardening and writing projects... And that is a beautiful thing.

And that's why I ordered 2 bars of your soap. FREE ENTERPRISE! :)

Thank you all so much for the words of encouragement and support.

Thank you to those of your orders. They are being put together today and as soon as our bad weather moves through (unexpected ice) we will be getting these orders out tomorrow and Wednesday.

Please keep us in mind for Valentine's Day as I can put together really nice baskets and will have "Valentine" scents available by then (Chocolate Covered Strawberry, Vanilla Cream etc) There will also be chocolate covered strawberry lip balm.

Keep an eye out for our therapeutic items: the facial bar, sinus relief (Baby It's Cold Outside), healing balm (will heal just about any skin trouble that you may be experiencing from rashes to psoriasis and eczema to cuts and scrapes), and soon to come will be Lip balm that contains Lemon Balm: a natural enemy of cold sores. Will help keep cold sores at bay and will also shorten break outs for those already experiencing cold sore problems.

It's actually very popular because we used the organic cocoa and cocoa butter in it so it's considered a "luxury bar".

Actually I have some left over from our Christmas stock and it's about to be on sale for $2.50 a bar on the site on our clearance section. My webmaster should have my clearance stuff up at 50% off here in the next day or two.

After perusing your website & product offering, I came to the conclusion that I would love to try some of your product. However, I was not familiar with the different soaps and the some of the scents were unusual. I also didn't see what the size of the soaps were (2oz, 4oz, etc...)

From a marketing perspective, may I offer a suggestion that may get you significantly more business.

Create a "Sampler" product where the soap bars are reduced in size(around 2oz.) so that people can try each flavor and decide which is the best for them. I see you have 16 different soaps. Maybe you can break this down into 2 separate 8-Pack samplers.

Samplers do three things, they expose more of your product to customers and they make it easier for the potential customer to make their buying decision based on so many different flavors. It's an easy pick. They also make great gifts. A gift basket might be a good idea to incorporate as well. Including the bath salts & various other products.

It looks great and I'm excited for your new business and wish you the best of luck. I will be forwarding your website onto friends & family.

Thank you for the idea of sampler packs! I think that would be a fantastic addition. Our webmaster is working on updating our site as we speak with several things that I wanted to do to change it. I will be emailing her to add this to the site.

I will look back, but I could have sworn that I had her put on the site that all bars are about 4.5 oz. If she did not, then I will have her correct that as well.

We will definitely be doing gift baskets for Valentine's Day.

Thanks again!

placed an order dear.....hope these soaps will help my dry skin..nothing else does

It has helped everyone I know with dry skin.

I will give you a little testimonial from my father. When he found out that I was learning to make a good natural therapeutic soap, he sort of scoffed and said, "Well it can't be that much better than everything else. I use lotion. I use moisturizer. Nothing helps." We went up to their place in the mountains over Halloween this year and they had already had a few cold spells in Florida where they live.

His hands had started to do like they do every year and crack. Some years they crack so badly, they will bleed. They worsened when we got to the mountains. I handed him a bar of soap and said, "Just try it."

*24* hours later he came out of the bathroom looking at his hands and then he looked up at me and said, "Okay. You have me convinced." I sort of smiled at him and he continued, "I've never gone into COLDER weather and had my hands begin to heal."

By the end of our 4 day trip to the mountains...in colder weather mind you...his hands were completely healed.

I hope it helps you too. But I have heard nothing from any of our customers that would suggest otherwise. :)

which are $90 each and for the 10 products that they would like to
carry, that would be $900. They are interested I just do not have the

Hey. Speaking of whole foods... their website lists this job:

http://jobs10-wholefoods.icims.com/jobs/33961/job

Must be fate.

Maybe you could work a deal with them.

They give you: a job(for you or hubby-- even if just for short term), money for your UPC codes, and a slot for your products.

You give them: a new product to sell, a knowledgeable employee, a single asphalt
repair/maintenance session thing-a-majiggy.

Now I don't know if this is even an even trade (got no idea what the asphalt job costs your company). just trying to think of creative ideas.

No intent to offend just googled whole foods and saw the job in memphis. Maybe you could work out some kind of creative win-win with Whole foods that doesn't require upfront money from you.

Best of luck

Go there and download that program, for about 60 dollars a year you can have a phone on your computer, with a local number, and the ability to make unlimited long distance calls in the us and canada with no "minute limits" or anything like that.

I think month to month it comes to about 3 dollars a month for unlimited calls in the us and canada, anytime. I think you have to get a subscription to get the actual number, but if you pay out for a year its about 60 dollars, for a whole of of unlimited calls, in and out. All you have to do is keep the lights on and pay your internet bill, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper than a cell phone in a pinch.

I hope you are successful with the soap business - they certainly look great to me!

That said, I don't think it would be dishonest to leave things off your resume. You're not required to report every job you've had. If I were applying for a job at McDonalds, for example, I'd probably put down that I worked at Kmart, but leave out most everything since then.

It's not lying -- you put the information you wish to put down on your resume. Just a tip, if you're really looking to get a basic job.

im going to get all emotional for a second here guys, and just tell you that all of you guys helping her out like this has been truly inspiring to me. This just kind of goes to show how much people are capable of helping one another when it comes down to it, and sort of proof that we dont need the government to do it for us. we are all full of ideas and are willing to help our fellow man when the going gets tough.

good stuff.

I hope you are successful with the soap business - they certainly look great to me!

Well...I know how to make myself look better on a resume, but I've never had to make myself look "lesser" on a resume before. So that's a "new skill" that I have to work on. lol

Actually the soap business is doing quite well. If I could just manage around 4 $20 orders a day, that would go a long way to help pay bills. Besides, it will have to be my husband to get the job, not me because child care alone if we both went would null and void any income from one of us.

He actually has an interview today. So keep your fingers crossed. :) I just have to keep everything on until he starts to get some checks if he gets the job (repairing laptops).

The local little shop that carries our soap is having a commercial shot this morning and our products will be the first thing featured on the commercial. We hope that it gets a great response!

Secondly, a blogger wants to review our products and then we are going to do a giveaway and ask people to name their favorite product which will get people to look at the entire site. She has a following on Twitter of about 300 and is going to offer extra entries if people "Twitter" the contest to their friends as well.

So we are hoping for some exposure from these.

You guys have been really wonderful and the orders have helped so much. I know that it is hard to believe that someone could make a living selling hand made soap, but I have really thrown myself into this business and think that it can and will do well, I just need exposure and to develop a web presence.

Will keep you updated.

I will definitely look into this. Thank you!

I wouldn't do that for all the tea in China. I've heard it before and I've heard it from others, but there is ONE definitive copy of my resume.

Consider this. Once you have dumbed down versions of your resume floating out there, how are you supposed to smarten up again? It's a slippery slope. Screw custom tailoring your resume to fit the employer. It's just another way of twisting the truth which leads to lies.

I have a couple of ideas for you but I don't want to tell everyone here. Two product ideas that might work for you. I also do internet marketing. Please PM me and we'll talk.

Memphis is your problem. Leave, my family is from there and they're all messed up. Come to Nashville. It has a much better economy relatively speaking and I bet you can find a good job there.

Just placed a $27.85 order to help a Ron Paul patriot

Paypal Transaction ID: 2WF5547587837912R

The internet's full of opportunities to make money.....I've got an information overload problem...thousands of e-mails about making money online and I don't have time to read and try them all...most of them are legitimate and have a money back guarantee...you either succeed or you get your money back...You're on the right track with this internet soap business...I am never applying for a job again.

I have heard that more than once. But with very little money, moving is not really an option. I will only be able to move if we are forced out of our house. I won't know for about 3 more weeks on that.

Don't know if it has been mentioned already... But how about a Ron Paul soap!!

The perfect cleansing mixture to CLEAN UP AMERICA'S MESS.

Use daily to scrub away all economic gloom and doom. Send one to your congressman or senator.

Send in a bar with your tax payment. Clean up and scrub away the IRS.

Other ideas folks?

Lol:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Along with my tax payment, I have enclosed a bar of extra strong soap. I figured that since your organization extracts money from hard working Americans by threatening to throw them in jail, you may want to use this soap to scrub away the shame. Enjoy!

Perhaps that would be too mean.

In all seriousness though, I think the sampler is a great idea.

Actually it will be up on the site shortly but we are doing "Patriot Bundles" and it is a year supply of soap (12 bars) for $42. That comes out to $3.50 and it's for those that are trying to prepare for long term.

We will also have Sampler Packs up shortly as well. It will consist of 8-2oz soaps. Your choice of scents. :)

We now have Patriot Bundles available. For those that are trying to prepare for whatever lies ahead, this is a one year supply of soap (12 bars) for a much reduced price ($1.50 off per bar).

We also have sample bundles available now (due to requests) and you can choose any 8 scents in 2oz size bars to try them if you aren't sure which scent is right for you.

Thank you for the input and all of the advice that we have gotten. I have a lot of new products coming out for Valentine's Day that will be ready shortly (like Love Dust, Massage Candles, & Body Parfaits). We have perfected our hand made lotion and it will be on the site within the next week or two. Our lip balm for those with cold sores will also be ready soon. Stay tuned!
