In a down economy, bartering is way up -- 98 percent from a year ago on Craig'sList, the online giant for classified ads. More people are finding something to swap.

To cover those costs, Thomas barters on IMS, a booming nationwide bartering service for businesses. He trades the value of his company's ads, and in return, picks from a menu of goods and services offered by 18,000 bartering companies.

Since bartering can only be done by reciprical trade, could there be a credit system for trading like Ebay except barter? What if someone has what I want but I don't have what they want, I sure don't want to track it down in order to trade. I love the idea.

Since bartering can only be done by reciprical trade, could there be a credit system for trading like Ebay except barter? What if someone has what I want but I don't have what they want, I sure don't want to track it down in order to trade. I love the idea.

There are organizations throughout the country that do this. My company has belonged to one based in Scottsdale called The Barter Group (http://www.bartergroup.com/).


Any guesses as to How long it will take the Government to try and Tax it?

In regards to the idea Sandra mentioned and the organizations in existence that fill that need, they already do tax these transactions.

Guess it would be best to do this privately as much as possible then.

this is already exempt from taxation I assume?
