Now we know that Blagojevich has named former Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris to serve the last two years of Obama's Senate term. This selection has many outraged with the embattled governor facing charges in a senate seat scandal.

Senate Democratic leaders have said they will block the appointment. The Governor through it's states constitution has the authority to appoint the vacant senate seat.

What I fear is the precedent that this will set. I don't like Blagojevich filling the seat under these circumstances. What do I dislike even more? The thought that the Senate will realize it can refuse ANY candidate to be sworn into its chambers. What if the controlling party of the time starts to deny Elected Senators because it 'does not feel they have merit'? Obviously those that voted would be outraged but what is left to stop them?

So what is new about this? Congress has been ignoring the will of the people for some time now.

They need 2/3 to deny a senate seat. The people are left to stop them, have faith in them. It's just a matter of how long it's going to take and the damage it's going to do. But times will cause people to act.

Network news said that it is a Constitutional issue and may too bad for those who don't like it. Did the network just invoke the Constitution?

I don't think they'd have this problem if the state legislators were allowed to pick their own senator.

I could be wrong though...

Blago might be my favorite democrat now. For sticking it to the congress and their hypocritical ways. He is obligated to select a replacement Senator.

Let's hope they follow the rule of law, starting with the US Constitution. That is the biggest problem we have today. They ignore existing laws (rules), and do whatever they want.

If the rules say that Blago appoints the Senator, that is what has to happen. If there are existing rules that allow them to over-rule that appointment, then they can do that.

Blago is sitting on pretty solid ground with the US CONSTITUTION backing him.

If and when the Senate challenges Blago's appointment, Blago can trun this into a Circus and expose the HYPOCRISY of Congress.

There wasn't a problem with Joe Biden Senate seat replacement by the Lame Duck governor Ruth Ann Minner. Jjust happens to be, longtime paid aide Ted Kaufman and Payrollee consultant. (Self One man business too!) Out of 900,000 deleware residents, Kaufman is selected, imagine that!

As much as I think he was scum, and should not have made the appointment I agree that now that he has the senate, should not or cannot block it.
