Fewer taxes/burdensome business regulations
Relaxation of certain ordinances (Zoning, etc.)
Privatization of city services (Buses, etc.)
Rejection of state/federal aid (the preservation of local sovereignty)

1.) Lower Taxes. "Friend of the Taxpayer"
2.) Friend of Small Business - less regulations
3.) Fiscal responsibility

Privatization of city services is possible
Rejection of state/federal aid is not very popular or smart. Your citizens are paying state and federal taxes and yet you do not want them to get their money back? This will hurt you

Legalize gambling and prostitution.

People will be happy and tax revenues will go up without hammering property owners.

State and federal funding is about control. Local communities that wish to maintain sovereignty over their schools and emergency services, etc. must be willing to stand up against this type of extortion. Continuing capitulation only gives more ammo to the power grabbers.

I agree with deadhead on the tax issue. People are already paying out the taxes to the state and feds. What you should do is, do whatever you can TO GET THEIR MONEY BACK!! The State and Feds would LOVE to keep every penny the citizens pay in, without giving any back.

Think about what you would honestly like to see in your community:

1. I'd promote real community involvement in shaping the city. You probably need better outreach to the community. Ask for citizen participation. Go out of your way to meet as many of the public as you can, while running for office AND AFTER. As all too often city council's just do their thing, and most people can't even name their city council members. There's room for improvement here.

2. How about the local Police having a different point-of-view? Instead of operating to generate revenue, how about them actually protecting and serving?!?! For instance, if there's a traffic problem that might cause "infractions" by drivers, don't just write tickets, help FIX the traffic problem! If you have local drinking establishments, don't be out there with the DUI checkpoint, find a way to get local volunteers to drive people home. Find a way to get the police to help drivers get home safely, don't arrest them. Do you see the difference??

Swath, is that really something a mayor can do?

Sovereignty, to the extent that's practical for a city. Rejection of federal mandates and many state mandates.

We have a RPR mayor a couple cities over, and his mission has been secession from Hennepin County, a bloated, astoundingly profligate county that makes up a quarter of the state of MN.

This is going to vary by city, but pick something bold and turn it into a populist stance.

When the US currency is destroyed, you have a solution. You can help make a new temporary currency for the town.

local issues for San Antonio: my guesses would include telling the spurs to go f#ck themselves and finding a way to get out of (or bash previous decisions regarding) state/city financing of arenas. The big rodeo and cattle fest that keeps the Spurs out of town for a month would seem to be a great area to kick off a campaign and, perhaps, convert many republicans that would otherwise vote straight party lines to your side.

privatize river-walk boat tours (if they are not already). use the Alamo as a historical reference fighting for freedom. pledge to end all subsidies for the Army HS football All-Star game.

DOWNSIZING GOVERNMENT may be a popular message with all this time around. Open meetings at all levels of government should be popular as well.

have Tim Duncan work with your campaign - he seems intelligent though i have no idea what his political ideology may be. Eva Langoria wouldn't hurt either, though if i remember correctly, her and Tony Parker were involved w/the Obama campaign.

i'm sure none of these viewpoints from an outsider are new. Gun rights, if he is running as a democrat, will help set him apart from his peers and appear to be important to Texans.

good luck and keep us updated.
