I think Utah would go with a Texas Republic before they ever willingly became part of China (or Japan).

I think the whole theory is pretty far-fetched.

Alaska reverting to Russian control

I'm no expert in Alaskan politics, but I don't think this would be voluntary.:D

I think it's possible for the states to split up, but absolutely not in the way he's suggesting.

If a split did happen, the midwest would join the EU.

While the US is in for some tough times, I think his scenario is laughable at best.

Thanks for the best laugh I had all day! I'm not sure if you meant your comment as tongue in cheek, but as an American living in the EU, I'm pretty sure if the US ever broker apart, the midwest of the US would be the last ones looking to be part of the EU or invited into the EU. The bible thumpers just don't have the power here like they do in the US.

Here are some vids about the fall of Rome. Try and find all the parallels to the fall of the US. ;)

I don't think mainstream population of Americans have the balls to fight the way they used to. We'll see soon enough though.

Unless their local Walmart closes for a day, they won't even notice if the Chinese or Russians invade anyway.

In a worse case scenario I can see riots - especially inner city riots with massive food and gas shortages and a very high unemployment rate, but I don't see how these other countries would take control. Makes no sense. The U.S. military will still be there, and stronger than ever as it will be one of the few jobs, enforcing local law to maintain order.

That's what I see as a worse case scenario. Why would parts of this country voluntarily become parts of other countries? If anything, if the U.S hits bottom like I described above, other countries will be in depressions too as the U.S. economy makes the world go 'round.

I've been starting to wonder if Russia is a better place for someone like one of us to live than the US. As far as freedom, it does not measure up so one might rule it out right away. But as far as intelligence of the government, America is absolutely horrible. I would probably be more sane knowing my government is not smashing a hammer into it's skull and wondering why there's a headache, even if I am less free. It's kind of like what Franklin said about sacrificing liberty for security. Only it's not security I'm talking about, it's peace of mind from believing that my government is falling apart and no one is reversing it.

I'm not saying Russia is better, I'm just saying I've been debating the idea.

If you are thinking of other countries, Russia will be just as bad. Most countries will be, but in different ways. I say the best choices are the more free states like New Hampsha, Alaska, maybe Wyoming or Montana if you feel the need to move.

That map doesn't make sense. First off, why are there no independent territories or even a "United States" portion? Why would Montana go with Canada? Why would the EU take the northeast? They'll going to be in debt too. He also groups unlike territories together. He doesn't seem to have much understanding of America

I could see China taking part of the west. What is China going to demand as payment for its holdings of our debt? More worthless Federal Reserve notes? I don't think so. I remember reading that the government owns a lot of the territory in the western states...

"Americans hope President-elect Barack Obama "can work miracles," he wrote. "But when spring comes, it will be clear that there are no miracles.'"

He should read The Nine Nations of North America and then he'll see that the US would divided by cultural lines. The imaginary borders between the states don't reflect the collective cultural similarities.

North America is different from other regions of the world and
must find itsowncooperative route forward.AnewNorthAmerican
community should rely more on the market and less on bureaucracy,
more on pragmatic solutions to shared problems than on grand
schemes of confederation or union, such as those in Europe. We
must maintain respect for each other’s national sovereignty.

Yeah, that sounds pretty evil.

Texas becoming part of Mexico. This guy is a moron.

This "professor" knows nothing of Texans if he thinks we'll fall "under mexican influence"

Under this senario, Texas would be a strong republic once again,

not some pawn of the mexican government.

I don't think I've ever seen a more misunderstood state alliance and control scenario in my life. Wyoming a part of Canada, not in a billion life times.... NC and SC with the European union -- laughable!! And the "Control" rhetoric -- I guess he doesn't really understand why there would be a dissolution of the Union. It wouldn't be because we wanted more control over us from some large central government... thats for sure. The only thing that he got right was that the north east (minus a small group of hold outs in the frestate project) would gladly join up with the Marxist EU.

ol' Igor needs to visit us for a while and then make predictions.

The article the OP posted is bullshit and should not be on the front page of the Daily Paul either. Just because WSJ publishes it, doesn't make it any more credible. That Russian professor doesn't seem like he's familiar with the concept of the North American Union either. That map is a complete joke!

Its like the professor is still living in the 19th century where territorial spheres of influence based on a countries proximity with one another make a difference. Just because China is the closest superpower to Utah and Idaho does not mean China has any more leverage than what it has with New York or Florida. Freaken ridiculous. If this professor is any indication of Russian intelligence, then they have no grasp on reality.

The worse things get here, the more likely the U.S. federal government will seek to EXPAND not CONTRACT its borders. We could only wish that the states had that much autonomy to even make such alliances as the map proposes possible.

The "influence" from other countries may be from funding of various uprisings/revolutions. The factions that have the most funding are the ones that will come out on top, and from the perspective of other nations it might be the best way to claim a piece of the broken American pie without throwing in ground troops and an occupation.

Knowing southerners really well, I know for a fact that there is no way in hell Texas would ever be part of any other government if there's a secession. It simply doesn't make sense. Hell, they're having a troubled time responding to our own government right now.

This guy is a joke and it's sad to see him being taken seriously. He simply looked at the geographic location of said state and thought they'd join the country nearest to it. Pathetic.
