This is why it is so important that we try to reach those in our lives who are in the military, state, and local police forces. They are our sons, daughters, husbands, fathers, friends....they are us. I am in the military and I will not use arms against my countrymen trying to secure their rights. And I am not alone in the military. People are patriotic to the ideals of freedom that make this country America not some tyrannical government.

I think you could count on some measure of support from the military if the government became a facist or oppressive government.

The Military's reliance upon a steady flow of funds and bodies from an essentially approving citizenry positively cannot be overstated. As ever, it is the PEOPLE who are slow on the take.
