The riots that followed the teenager's death are the worst Greece has seen in decades, feeding off widespread dissatisfaction with the unpopular conservative government and anger over social inequality and economic hardship.

It seems like some people are seeing in the rioters whatever they want to see, regardless of what they are truly rioting about.

The media's attempt to make "violent socialist" synonymous to "anarchist" is really disheartening.

That's because it's a mix of everything, and a large government resistance. That's sexy. Yes, a large amount of them are demanding social/communism, but there's probably some libs in there as well. The most destructive make the headlines while the peaceful don't. Better to hear from eye-witness accounts than from the MSM.

They sound like a bunch of Socialists. Am I wrong?

I've been in a few riots while in college...there doesn't tend to be much reason amongst the riotters other than blowing off steam and enjoyment of the gathered chaos.

They're not sitting there thinking..."the burning of this private apartment building represents the laborour rising against the private enterprise which keeps prices on our living high to the point that we cannot break free of our class existance!"

They're thinking..."hey, I bet if I throw this malitof coctail through that window it would burn up pretty good"

About 100 high school students gathered outside the capital's main court complex, pelting riot police guarding the building with stones, eggs, rocks and yogurt to demand that those detained in the riots be freed.

I hear that Greek yogurt is pretty thick!

There is nothing to "give credit" to.

These are simply stupid children (grown to adult size) who are throwing tantrums and destroying everything around them in fits of pointless rage.

It is disgusting.

You are disgusting.

And judgmental. Yuck.

I mean for Christ's sake, we're all sitting here speculating about this. We don't live in Greece, we don't really know the extent of what is going on over here.. yet you have to go and be a judgmental prick against people who are fighting the EU controlled establishment. Even if they have the wrong solution, at least they are fighting. That's better than having the correct solution and doing nothing.

Wow...

That burning Christmas tree looked pretty sweet, though.

And the whole thing makes me think of this Foo Fighters video:

Pretty hard to pick a favorite pic, though.

That's pretty presumptuous of you to call standing up to their EU establishment government as a "waste".

But they also take a shot at "conservative government" in the article? The media is so leftist........but not anarchist or socialist leftist, that would be too left.

One thing I've noticed about represive government is they offend all groups that don't listen to them. One thing I'm learning throughout this, is we have more in common with the groups that want a clean planet, or want their government to provide for them, even though it strikes against the very fabric of what we consider freedom. Freedom is just that. All ideas can be implemented, as we respect each others viewpoint. Once all these groups realize the danger in having a overreaching centralized power in charge of them, that stops the free expression of their ideas they realize it is the same thing we all fight for. The freedom to chose, and live out our lives as free people.

In my opinion, all the protests occurring throughout the world are free people that have had enough. I hope our nation doesn't go the path of Greece...but what if it did?

Like I said, its a well know historical fact that the Boston Tea Party was when Sam Adams got together with a violent mob and burned down his own brewery.

Why can't we protest like this in the US?
Because they wouldn't just be using tear gas.
I'm surprised the microwave cannons haven't been released in Athens.
