It is a great paradox that more open, free, and flourishing something is, the more tempted the controllers are to stick their greasy fingers into it. Thus, free and prosperous areas of society are taken over and then stunted, which gives the controllers more excuses to gain even more control.
Do not think that the tyrants aren't slavering for control of the Internet. Not only is the Internet free and flourishing, but it is one of the greatest threats to their hegemony today. They will use any excuse, however lame, (spammers, hackers, plagiarers, predators, pornographers, spyware, scams, identity theft, copyright infringement and, of course, terr'ists) to get their fingers on it. Why do you think all that stuff's always on the news, in spite of the fact that the Internet functions more smoothly, cheaply and safely than almost anything else--certainly anything government regulated.
Be vigilant! It's coming. It's already here.
