I never understood what that thing was.
A rolling pin?
A cannon?
A telescope?
A tampon?
A sarcophagus?
A very long wine glass?

"Come and take it" was a slogan used in the Texas Revolution in 1835. In March 1831, Juan Gomez, a Lieutenant in the Mexican Army, worked alongside Tadeo Ortiz, a consul at Bordeaux, France, and granted a small cannon to the colony of San Antonio. The small bronze cannon was received by the colony and signed for by Randy Tumlinson. It was then transported to Gonzales, Texas and later was the object of Texas pride. At the minor skirmish known as the Battle of Gonzales, a small group of Texans successfully resisted the Mexican forces who had orders to seize their cannon. As a symbol of defiance, the Texans had fashioned a flag containing the phrase along with a black star and an image of the cannon which they had received six years earlier from the hands of a Mexican official.

In modern times, the "come and take it" flag has been modified and used as a symbol of gun-rights advocates. The first-known modified version, from the 1980s, replaces the cannon with an M16A2 assault rifle and was displayed at a Bill of Rights rally in Arizona. In 2002, the flag was further modified to depict a Barret .50 BMG Rifle.[1]

I think there was one with a AR-15 or M-16 on it instead of a cannon.

That would be this one.

That's an AK-47 I believe, NOT an American gun!

:eek:Yeha, that's why I asked about ti because it kind of changes the meaning a bit. If I want to use a "come and take it flag" it should be an American gun in the imagery, NOT gun used largely by communists / terrorists.

The AK47 is Russian and is widely used by "terrorists" either by buying these arms from former Russian governments, stealing them, or being given them.

I am an AK-47 wielding Patriot, thank you very much. I created this image to reflect myself and my battle rifle of choice.

I just think that if we are going to use symbolism of this nature, it should be an American gun instead of a Russian gun; otherwise it doesn't have quite the same effect and possibly even sends the wrong message. Just my opinion...

I appreciate your sense of symbolism, but you are making the wrong fight here. if you are going to consider symbolism, consider that the M16 represents stupidity! M16's are notorious for jamming. the Ak-47's, based upon a German weapon, are superior in that respect and are known for throwing "lead" into any target under less-than pristine circumstances, unlike the M16. This has been known ever since the days when the M16 was introduced. the answer that those in charge gave to the problem was to keep cramming the inferior weapon into the combat units regardless. that's the American Way!

later, a push-rod was added so that when your M16 jammed, and you had the luxury of time in the firefight, you could hit the push-rod to try to clear the jam, meanwhile your enemy was still throwing lead at you with his non-jammed weapon.

I had quite a few times where my M-16 jammed on the ranges in BT. Mostly it was from the rounds not loading properly from the magazine, but it was winter, snowy and usually cold so I figured that's why it was happening so much. Never used an AK so nothing to compare to.
