View Full Version : How do we stop Michael Moore from nationalizing the Big 3?

I know Ron Paul would vote against any auto bailout. He'd let them all go bankrupt.

But the other side, or corner if you go by a certain chart, would like to spend a couple billion dollars less than the bailout, and nationalize the companies.

My question: how do we convince the latter people to think sensibly?

Well, I would assume they'd do much worse if they were government controlled, hence proving our point. Still, until that happened we (the taxpayers) would essentially be the Big 3's personal ATM, so best to avoid that scenario altogether.

What part of the Katrina experience convinces them that government control would slow the purchases of red ink one whit?

I live in Metro Detroit, and saying you're against the bailout here may just get your head kicked in.

Good. God forbid they steal from us without so much as a threat of violence...

We're accustomed to that attitude from our politicians.

Government ownership doesn't seem to phase people because for all the lamenting the average citizen does they still have a deeply instilled belief that the government is more competent than the individual.

For example, ask many non-homeschoolers why they don't homeschool and many respond that they are not as capable as the government at educating their own child. They also think that the herd/peer mentality is necessary for proper socialization. Ugh!!!

It is like we feel that getting a committee together to rationalize decisions is an effective way to solve every problem. Independant thinking and originality are frowned upon as flaky and/or conspiratorial (anti-government).

It's no use trying to convince the Michael Moores of the world that our way is best. They've already made a commitment to their socialist beliefs. They've placed their own self-worth on the line. Expecting someone like Michael Moore to agree that no government action is justified would be kinda like expecting the Spanish Inquisition to agree with the theory of evolution. It just ain't gonna happen.

The only way to make progress is to do a better job than Michael Moore at convincing the unconvinced.

I didn't know he had the authority.

He's pretty popular among liberals. He could rally the sheep.

He didn't succeed in getting his socialized medicine, though. (Even though we kind of already have socialized medicine)

I agree with the OP, but what does Michael Moore have to do with nationalizing the Big 3?

Is he trying to lobby Congress or something?

I don't know. He's been interviewed several times and he's talking about it.

I just don't want that catching on.

Bailing out bad companies is not a good idea, but most politicians are afraid to let these lumbering behemoths fail, so they will be bailed out in some way. About all we can do now is hope that its limited to some degree.

I don't think we have to stop some fatass, we have to just make sure the House and Senate doesn't do anything. Liberals will have to learn to live with it, because obviously, they'll never learn why they must.

Moore was a pretty sincere leftist in the beginning, if you watch stuff like "Roger and Me". I think he's been corrupted for a good long while though. :p
