From a newsletter I get...

A gun dealer in NC reported such a huge surge in sales that the shop could not keep up with demand.

In the third quarter of 2008 (July through October), the firm sold this:
7.62x39 ammo 361 cases
30-round AK mags 786
AK rifles (all types) 243

By comparison, in the 10 days since the election, the firm sold:
7.62x39 ammo 1218 cases
30-round AK mags 3855
AK rifles 572

I just went to a gun range for the first time last Sunday. I will be making my first purchase sometime after the first of the year. BTW, what newsletter do you get? I'm looking into subscribing to a gun or firearms publication as well. Thanks.

For some odd reason, this reminds me of Kurt Saxons testimony before Congress...

The CHAIRMAN. I notice another thing here that is interesting. This "Militants' Formulary"—you dedicated it when you had it copyrighted and published. On the first page it says:* Affectionately dedicated to Lee Harvey Oswald, James Earl Ray, Sirhan Sirhan, and Senator Thomas Dodd, without whose efforts this work would be irrelevant
What do you mean by that?
Mr. Sisco. Well, I simply mean that, here, take three nuts and they kill three prominent people with guns. So, Senator Dodd makes a Federal case of it. I think when he started there were about 35 million guns in private hands and now there are over 90 million guns in private hands; at least 25 million are pistols.
It was only after his investigations and threats of registration and possible confiscation of firearms that people turned to bombs and things like that. [...]
The bombing started shortly after Senator Dodd started with his gun bills. Also, gunrunning started. In fact, I have that explained in the introduction to my book.

Its funny that this was posted the day after I myself went to a gun range for the first time.

The place was packed... The Owner said he had never seen anything like it in 30 yrs of being in business... he said a lot of people feel Obama will make it harder to get guns and ammo.... Anyway you slice it, they all think the shit is going to hit the fan! Get your guns and ammo NOW!

You got that from clasic arms .... I have not been able to find any .223 ammo that is within my price range. Cabellas is sold out and most of their ammo is in back order. I refuse to buy wolf because I will not shoot wolf through my new RRA Coyote rifle.

The central bankers asked for consumer spending to increase. How bout them apples? Hope the bankers (http://www.runtogold.com/2008/11/the-federal-reserve-has-enemies/) do not get hunted.

I'm sure the gun and ammo salesmen are going to do their best to perpetuate fear. They are playing you for a sap.

Stop and think for a moment. Why would gun and ammo sellers try to convince you that "the shit is going to hit the fan! Get your guns and ammo NOW!"

Are you thinking. What possible reason could gun sellers have to try and get you to panic buy now. Hmmm.

Wait, I know! Gun and ammo salesmen want you to PANIC and buy loads of guns and ammo BECAUSE THEY SELL GUNS AND AMMO (duh?).

Asking a gun salesman whether you should buy a bunch of guns now is like asking a car salesman if you should buy a car now. What the Hell do you think they are going to say?

THINK PEOPLE!

BTW, they said the same thing when Clinton was elected in '92. Don't be surprised if the NRA tries to sell fear to raise membership and donations as well (just like they did in '92).

Now here is whats going to really happen (I'm not selling anything, I'm just using my brain).

First off, Obama and congress aren't going to do a damned thing about guns anytime soon. They are going to have their hands full with the economic and financial problems for a while.

If CONGRESS (not the President) eventually gets around to discussing an anti gun bill, it will take weeks (if not months) to pass anything. Once the bill is passed, you will have months before it goes into effect. Thats what happened back when they passed the "assault weapon" bill. You don't have to panic now.

Odds are, whatever legislation is passed will also be full of loopholes (just like the "assault weapon ban" was).

If you think federal agents are going to be beating down your door to grab your guns on Jan 21st, you have NO IDEA how our government runs.

I know, I know, hysteria is so much more fun than thinking rationally, but I thought what the Hell, I'll be the "stick in the mud."

Gun salesmen and NRA recruiters, flame away!

The main problem at this point is ammo. There's a definite run on the stuff, and I think a lot of it is because Obama, via executive order, can ban the importation of cheap foreign ammo. It's just a matter of him telling a secretary to write it up, him signing it, and it's done.

The AWB is a different animal altogether. Yes, it'll take them some time to get it through, and there will be time before it goes into effect.

One thing that bothers a lot of people is the fact that they are stationing 20,000 US troops on our soil to "quell civil unrest" and "help" with disasters, and that's on top of the First Brigade Combat team that was stationed here starting on October 1st. And while I know they're not going to start kicking in doors the day after the inauguration, the fact remains that they are here. And the climate could change over night if we had a "terrorist" incident like the one in India, or if an American city goes up in a mushroom cloud (http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5gMYqhu3XdWASej-Dec3wIqYpq-yw). We saw how far they ran with 9/11. You can bet your bottom dollar that any future "incident" on a scale larger than 9/11 would be like a home run for them. They'd take it all the way to the bank.

As others have noted, the executive order is the primary fear.

I think the DEMs know all too well that they can lose themselves a re-election really quickly by trying to take away people guns. So, I don't see anything happening for at least 2 years. If they win in 2 years, they'll wait until closer to 4. Plus, they'll only do it if it looks like they're in good shape for re-election.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see some smaller dings into the rights of gun owners - but nothing that they would fear losing in the supreme court.

You are definitely right in those who profit from gun sales will gladly point out some reasons to buy them!

I am having trouble being optimistic.

One thing missing from the re-election argument is the blind emotion voting block that exists now.
Completely uneducated (politically) people voting on the issue of race alone.
The people voting for this yahoo do not care about his policy, socialist tendencies or anything other than "electing a black man"
I have heard it time and again.

I've had the discussion many times, recently, and they all end in a similar way...
we got ours by getting obama elected.
I don’t really like his ideas, but we made history.
There is no real change likely, but that’s ok

It just gets more and more depressing.

I don't think they will even consider re-election issues, because even if he runs the country into the dirt he'll have plenty of zombies voting for him.

I agree that shortages can occur when people start buying up supplies based on panic.

However, there is next to no chance that any of this will occur. The crazies on the extremes of either party always claim that something drastic will happen if someone from the "other party" takes office- as I mentioned before, the crazies were saying the same thing in '92.

However, the "crazies" who make these claims seem to have no idea how politics in this country work. No President would do anything that radical the day he walks into office, even if he really thought it was a good idea. If he did, it would be the end of his political career, at the very least.

Obama is a liberal. He's not insane.

Frankly, I think he's a very intelligent guy and an astute politician (just as Clinton was). He's not going to step into office and start acting like a mad dictator issuing nutty decrees.

He will work within the system, and the system does NOT move quickly.

So for those who want to panic, feel free, but you are wasting your time (and probably your money, given that prices rise when people panic buy).

The subject of buying guns came up at two dinner parties the last two nights.

They are buying and think things are going to get very bad. These are some well off people.

Half the wives don't like it, due to kids or them getting shot, and half like them getting the guns.

I know a guy who just bought a glock 40 and is stocking up on ammo, along with another rifle. He is in that crowd, wife isn't happy, but he feels the SHTF soon. Obviously I've been talking to him as well.:D

This is the one thing that scares the shit out of me.

What Civil unrest? Do they know something I don't? With the shit that's come out of a lot of leaders mouths these days including Biden's dumb ass frankly this worries me. I mean why would you say something like that for no reason. "The Terrorist's are going to test Obama" what the fuck are you talking about? If the SHTF I know who I'm going to see. I am sick and fucking tired of people trying to make me live in fear in my own country because the government chooses to dabble in horrendous foreign policy and can't understand the simple fucking logic of "Blowback". I mean why wouldn't these people want to kill us? We have been blowing up their kids and stealing their shit for 50 years now with back door deals with their government. And so what? We can put cheap gas in our SUV's. I try to use this logic with our country and China in a "how would you feel" scenario to get people to realize what's going on and that it's not just as simple as "they hate us for our freedoms".

My favorite saying these days is: "I would rather die on my feet then live on my knees".
