Hello Jim,
We wanted to send you a note about an idea you recently submitted on in the Ideas for Change in America competition titled "Return to the Gold Standard."
We welcome you to directly petition the Obama Administration about this matter, which you can do at http://change.gov/page/s/ofthepeople. However, this unfortunately lies outside the scope of the Ideas for Change in America project, which is focused on identifying solutions that can, through a grassroots lobbying effort, receive serious consideration from the Obama administration and/or Congress. Regardless of its merits, it is our judgment that this idea will not be seriously considered by the administration or the 111th Congress regardless of the intensity of our lobbying effort, and it is therefore not eligible to enter the second round of the competition.
We understand that good people may disagree with our vision. But this is a private effort not connected to the Obama campaign or transition team, and we reserve the right to keep the competition and its content aligned with the stated mission and overall spirit of the project.
Thank you for your understanding. As mentioned above, we welcome you to directly petition the Obama administration about your proposal at http://change.gov/page/s/ofthepeople. And we hope you continue your work to advance change.
Best,
- The Ideas for Change in America Team

lolz.. yeah. Use composting toilets to conserve water (http://www.change.org/ideas/view/use_composting_toilets_to_conserve_water) now that one needs to go straight to Obama.
btw.. you can go on there and search for "gold" and find several that mention returning to a gold standard. heh.

It's funny how these organizations act like they are very influential. Have you ever heard about change.org?
Our revolution can do much more, we just need the funding.

1) If they can arbitrarily decide what ideas "make it to the second round", why even offer to accept ideas?
2) This is just some lobbying effort, trying to scam money from those donors that think that they are affiliated with Obama.
3) I bet "Have Obama fix the economy by" any one of these methods does make the cut: (a) keeping wages up, (b) 'creating' government jobs, (c) creating more financial and private business regulation, (d) working together with foreign leaders to artificially control the dollar, (e) funding more bailouts for failed companies, (f) funding inefficient energy 'solutions', or (g) giving out more stimulus checks
Note: the government cannot and should not be able to "do" any of those, and they all will make problems worse. The ONLY thing the federal government can do for the economy under the constitution is coin money. Not print it. You'd think the founders that went through the whole "Continental" monetary crash knew why they chose those words.
4) I advise not driving up this site's traffic, and keep our efforts focused on planning our own methods to bring the change to the system.

Our revolution can do much more, we just need the funding.
And to get the funding we need the popular support.
To get the popular support we need an accepted image and philosophy.
To get the accepted image we need face time.
To get face time with enough people to increase our support we need either the support of the private media or a ton of funding.
Where in this vicious cycle would can you see a good place to start our efforts?

Most people have no idea what a gold standard is beyond "using gold coins instead of cash and plastic? huh?"

Here was one of the featured ones about competing currencies:
"Promote and research the development of local, complementary currencies
Promote and research the development of local, complementary currencies to supplement economic activity from the bottom up, allowing communities to create value, and minimizing dependence on centrally directed and centrally biased fiscal policy. Reduce the burden on centrally issued currency to fulfill all the nation's transaction requirements, and reduce the influence of extraneous Wall Street speculation on Main Street activity. - Douglas Rushkoff (2 comments) "

You actually might get traction with a petition drive to have some Gold coins made as currency. It's easy to ask people to sign a petition for that purpose and it's easy to understand. During the petition signing, anyone with some knowledge will ask questions about the Gold Standard. Think of it as a starting point for the discussion about the Federal Reserve.
In the end, you'd see a fight in Washington D.C. about it, as there's no mechanism to make change (with Fed Notes, NO thank you). If nothing happens after the petition, it's just one more straw that broke the camel's back. With some luck, the people will see they've lost too much control of our government. Acknowledging there's a problem is the first step in fixing the problem.
If someone would like, go to the "change" website and just suggest, "why can't we get some Gold coins for our use? That would be cool to have some Gold coins again!" By doing this, it says nothing about the Gold Standard, but gets people talking about using some gold again.
