What is he going to buy for the rest of his supporters - out of his own pocket?

He didn't donate to his own campaign. It's pretty obvious he thinks OTHER should support HIM.

So the Ms. gets a $30,000 ring, and Obama's bro still lives in a hut on $1.00 a day...

Liberals are frivolous spenders, but real tight-wads when it come to charity

Before you shoot your mouth off, you might want to check Opensecrets.org.

Ron Paul didn't donate a single cent to his campaign.

Does the fact that Dr. Paul didn't donate a single cent to his campaign mean he thinks others should support him?

If you think candidate self financing is a good thing, you must LOVE HILLARY!

I grew up poor. I have some money now (I worked hard, got a good education, and a good job, just like Obama did). I still live a pretty middle class lifestyle, but I bought my wife a $30k car (she's not really into jewelry, thank GOD :).

If we buy something nice for our wives once in a while, does that make us "elitist" and mean we have automatically forgotten where we came from?

I'm not for open ostentation. I don't flaunt my wealth (nor does Obama from what I've seen), but doing something nice for your wife once in a while, if you can afford to do it, isn't a "bad" thing, folks...

I really think some of you spend all day looking for something to bitch about.

If you want to bitch about Obama, how about making it something substantive, like his choice for secretary of state?

who cares what he buys his wife...

This sounds more like a socialist mentality.

He has MORE than me, that isn't far.

What does being elite have to do with buying $30k of anything?

Most Americans with decent credit could get a couple cards or even 1 card to toss that ring on it and pay a wonderful bill for it for many years to come.

Most with expensive cars do the same thing, we are a credit society trying to LOOK rich while we are poor as shit.

Read or Listen to rich dad poor dad. Some call it b.s. but I think it really does explain WHY the wealthy are truly wealthy and why so many of us struggle to pay bills each month.

Being a Senator "for the people" must pay well.

Wouldn't that money be better used for the programs he's preaching? I think that's the reason why people are calling him an elitist.

It looks like a "bad" example to make IMO. With all these "bailouts" how has it helped any common American to make a mortgage payment so they don't get kick from there house.. Sure maybe some of these people put themselves in this situation, but the best example should be made by the next POTUS should be saving. Lead by example.

On the other hand if this is chump change for him then spend up!!! Maybe it will keep a few more people employed for a few more weeks!

Obama is just showing how much he believes in precious metals and is investing now before he gets into office.

That thing will be worth millions in 4 years.

The real question is why no one addresses the elephant in the room that is Michelle Obama being ugly.

Barack can buy his wife anything he wants. This does however deflect money that he otherwise could have donated to his charities. I'm sure he has increased his donations along with this $300,000 purchase.

What has he got in his pockets, my precious?

That's too funny! We just watched Lord of the Rings lately and no our son is reading The Hobbit. :)
