Huh!? Obama's Base of "Small Donors" Only About 26% of Donations

Well, he got about the same percentage of his total as Bush from small donors, but since Obama raised far more money than Bush even dreamed of, his total donations from small donors was far more.

I suspect a lot of those who started as "small donors" for Obama eventually became "large donors"- people who gave $25 or $50 (well within the means of all but the poorest voters) several times and ended up hitting the $200 limit to become a "large donor".

I would also bet that a lot of Ron Paul supporters were "large donors" because a lot of people even on this board donated more than $200, even if it came in small chunks.

Frankly, the idea that anyone donating over $200 is a "large donor" is ludicrous. Calling $2,000+ a "large donor" is more realistic. Heck, even college kids can come up with $200 over an 18 month election cycle with no trouble.
