These people are scared to death of him. I have heard it with my own ears this weekend.

The aarp is the largest lobby in D.C. These people are totally caught in the Feds net and they dont want someone like Ron Paul rocking the boat!

We/He have got to get to the AARP right away to explain that his policies arent going to effect anyone who is currently attached to the Fed Govt teet so to say but a change has to begin.

He has to work on the baby boom Generation NOW! These folks talk constantly, that is all they have to do, they are retired for goodness sake, and they make up a huge voting block that WILL SHOW UP AT THE POLLS.

They really are somewhat frightened of him, some have told me NO WAY, others have said I wont vote for anyone with an "R" in their name because they wont help us, they never have....we have to address these folks ASAP in my opinion.

Am I wrong??

We cannot rely on senior citizens!

They will vote EN MASSE for ANYBODY who "promises" to:

A: Leave their entitlements alone

B: Increase said entitlements

Period.

AARP is hopeless. No conservative should be a member of it. Individuals of any age should be approached on an issue by issue basis depending upon their concerns, guns, abortion, taxes, regulation, etc.

They have put politicians in power that have stolen $5 trillion out of their SS "trust fund" and spent it on their socialist utopia over the last 60 years. And now we are supposed to step up to the plate and pay for their foolishness? Sounds just like the boomer entitlement mentality.
Tell them if we don't right the financial ship, their retirement is going to be much worse than Dr. Paul's medicine. Especially when they start having to ration medical care.

Is there another way to get to seniors without dealing with the AARP?

Is it hopeless? Just dump them by saying they would never vote for Paul?

I am confused on this one. I think they could be a source of great backing especially since most have grandchildren and arent happy with the direction the country is going in??????????

The AARP can go f--- itself. It's a lobbyist-organization that doesn't want free market health care, so what can I say? Tough luck.

I think there is a conservative alternative to AARP called 60+. It is of course much smaller. I don't know much about the group but check into itl

I think it is a safe bet that AARP would never permit Ron Paul to address their members or to reach their members in any way through their organization.

My alternative to AARP is nothing. They can have their organizations all they want, but I'm a strong believer that the government should not be involved AT ALL in health care. Why don't they give universal health care to their own members? Then raise the dues. Why do they have to lobby corrupt politicians?

Welcome to the Revolution! I see you are new to the threads...good to see!

Is it the common thought here that we should just say goodbye to these voters?

If they understood the message better, I think they might get on board for their grandkids?

Where are the GRANNYWARRIORS on this topic???? Please respond if you see this thread...

I would hate to leave such a large segment out there "shooting us down" at every opportunity??

Hate to say it but seniors should be scared of Ron Paul. They however helped build this mess. If my mother loses a percentage of her social security I'm sure she won't like it but that's what kids are for.
The only way Paul can make the aarp happy is by lying to them.

I heard from the grapevine that AARP is pushing for national health care.

well.. they don't want a free market health care system, that's the problem lol a transitional, free market system would be in the right direction, but it doesn't play well to their base. I'm sorry AARP. your views suck. If you really wanted to help your people, you'd provide them with health care yourself, or you'd pay for their bills, instead of taking their money and lobbying corrupt politicians everyday.

ohh.. and their commercials are annoying

"oh I can get an AARP card? I didn't know that!" blah blah blah

You mean, as in: enough of the old people will die between now and winter primaries no erode their numerical presense in our favor?

Current retirees shouldn't be worried about RP's stance on the issues that affect them. As far as Medicare/Medicaid, RP recognizes that we've created a culture of dependency on the government and he would not simply turn off the spicket. He would start by reducing our imperialism throughout the world. This would free up many dollars to properly fund those that are dependent on the government. He would likely work to repeal the prescription drug act. While this may seem anti retired persons, just look at what the free market is providing with Wal-Mart offering 30 day supply of popular drugs for 4 bucks a month.
In addition, retired persons should find agreeable his stance on medicinal marijuana.

RP would work to end the Federal Governments claim of jurisdiction on this matter.

In addition, retirees should find RP agreeable in taxes. Their retirement benefits are generally currently taxable (not generally SS benefits) with RP's stance on the elimination of the income tax and the IRS, these benefits would not be taxable.

Thats what I thought, to the Original poster, its a non issue they are private. I dont even see the point at all. I don't care what they "want" to do or there "agenda" a Ron Paul presidency wouldn't effect them in the least.

ITS PRIVATE!!!

I think you all would do well to avoid lumping people and groups into the same boat as their Federal lobbyists.

Both my parents are AARP members, and very responsive to RP's message.

We need to make sure that seniors understand that he's not going to take away social security and medicare from them, but forget about AARP, the organization. Their politics suck, quite frankly.

I think is a good idea to have Ron visit with them to explain his position in their magazine. We know that Ron won't abandoned them, but the more he says this the better. Besides once he shuts down the FDA and medical licensing they will have much more options for a cheaper health care.

F**k the AARP. I've been fighting them since 1992 with Tsongas, they will smear regardless of the facts.

Please familiarize yourself FULLY with the following organization, it's our true friend:

That is true, but they wield enormous power over politicians because they represent the largest voting bloc of all. If AARP goes against Paul, he is going to have a harder time than he has now.

Good point. I'd like to see Dr. Paul do this as well. It's great chalking the college campus, but the AARP members actually VOTE in large numbers and so far it looks like they're voting for Thompson, Ghouliani or her thighness.

I wouldn't object to the AARP supporting RP. I'd be like...wow but it won't happen. He should take the endorsements where he can get em'...just ignore the controversal ones ;)

I am a GRANNYWARRIOR lol
I just became a grandmother in March and there is no way that I would want my grandson to be burdened with the mess and debt that this administration is leaving.

I am not anywhere close to retirement age so I don't really know how the older baby boomers think but I can tell you there are a lot of 40 and 50 year olds that support Ron Paul.
