Willacy County prosecutor Juan Angel Guerra stumped a presiding judge and attorneys for clients as high up as Vice President Dick Cheney when he failed to show up to court on his own grand jury’s indictments.

The no-show infuriated attorneys who’d spent the day milling about with what they’d hoped would be slam-dunk motions to quash the cases.

And it put Presiding Judge Manuel Bañales in a position he said he’d never been in before.

“At the very least I expected the district attorney to be here,” Bañales said, asking Guerra’s office manager, “Do you know where he is?”

He's fine. The judge sent someone to check on him, then ordered him to appear in court. I bet the judge was thinking "OMG!"

This would have been the biggest case of his life he would not miss it unless foul play is involved. Still need more info though but curious non the less.

A South Texas prosecutor who brought indictments against Vice President Dick Cheney, former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and others, accusing them of abuse of prisoners in a federal prison, pounded his fist and shouted at the judge today.

The table-pounding rant by Willacy County District Attorney Juan Angel Guerra alleged special treatment for high-profile defendants. That sent the routine motions hearing in a state district court in Raymondville into chaos. The prosecutor complained to Presiding Judge Manuel Banales about his handling of the case and asked him to recuse himself

While that went on, Cheney was in Shreveport for a fundraiser on behalf of 4th Congressional District candidate John Fleming, R-Minden.

Wasn't there another, nearly identical suit coming from another group? Or am I thinking of the Obama-eligibility lawsuit?

Either way, this smells like controlled opposition. Place a legitimate charge into the hands of a bogus prosecution, and run it parallel to any other anti-Cheney movements.
