I just watched the film "Idiocracy" tonight for the first time.... WOW! What a sad and depressing (but yet very clever and humorous) outlook on this country's future...

because fox pushed it under the rug at the last minute after they realised what it was about and i guess it hit a little to close to home

Yeah the intro is the best (worst?) part, and perhaps the scariest and most "damning" of our society.

The rest of the film is actually kind of a let down. (Although bits of it are humorous -- the Costco always gets me.)

If you liked that one you should check out "The Pentagon Wars". Funny (or not) look at government waste and stupidity.

http://www.amazon.com/Pentagon-Wars-Sam-Anderson/dp/B0007TKND8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1227000768&sr=1-1

"Over seventeen years almost as many billion dollars have gone into devising the Bradley fighting vehicle. There's only one problem it doesn't work. Now Kelsey Grammer and Cary Elwes star in a movie based on the hilarious ture story of the outrageous lengths the pentagon goes to defend our country at any cost."

Because most of the "dee-dee-dee's" we have running around now don't get it. Follow what I mean? LOL

I liked the first 15 minutes of the movie or so, but then it just got too silly.<IMHO> Perhaps just a bit too much like today's USA, for comfort. ;)

Funniest movie I have seen in many, many years. And it gets funnier every time you watch it.

Wall-E had a similar theme. Only people weren't stupid, they had just become incredibly lazy, and the last of the human race lived on a space 'cruise' ship, because the earth had become so garbage laden that it would no longer support plant life.

Yeah, I recommend watching the first 5 minutes on youtube, but the rest is kinda dumb IMHO.

Yeah, that's why I always say Wall-E is "Idiocracy for kids"

Grassroots huh?

Next time I see a movie should I also post it in grassroots? ;)

Yeah, it's a good movie. But not based in reality. Dumb people tend to be the first ones to die out, not the last ones. Smart people will find ways to survive, while dumb ones won't.

heh..ya, I always figured THAT was why the movie never became popular, but the conspiracy theory presented above makes sense as well. Probably a combination of both.

Either way, this is a great movie. Everybody should watch it, cause it's got electrolytes!!

Wow, I couldn't disagree more.

You're one of those people who didn't like Beavis and Butthead because they were so stupid, right? Without realizing that was the entire point of the show?

Ahhh well, not everybody "gets it" ;)

You're assuming that humanity changes courses. This film is based on the premise that humanity doesn't change course from around 2006 and on.. So no, it is not based in reality, but that doesn't make it any less relevent to our society.

Smart people will find ways to survive, while dumb ones won't.I think you missed the point. It said in the movie that society had artificially kept dumb people alive and prevented them from hurting or killing themselves and even promoted them breeding.

Well maybe, but they claimed it didn't test well so they decided not to throw good money after bad which would make sense. I mean after all, most of the movie going public wouldn't "get it".

You can only artificially keep dumb people alive with smart people assisting them. There may always be dumb people, but never without smart ones. The movie was funny, but not based in reality.

Are you sure we are talking about the same movie??

Because the film showed that as the population of smart people dwindled, their society began to completely crumble.

So congratulations. The entire point of the movie was summarized in your post. Ironically, it also makes your post completely contradictory.

You should seriously watch the movie again and maybe actually pay attention this time.

Yeah I am talking about the same movie. They had NO smart people in that movie, none. The guy from the past was the smartest one so they made him the president. Smart people would not be the first to die out. The dumb ones would be.

Wall-E had a similar theme.WallE was a propaganda film on radical environmentalism and economic ignorance. Even Mises commented on it:

your right, and so would comedy because smart people aren't very good at just laughing at it, they have to over analyze every aspect until its not funny anymore
