How about former New Hampshire governor Craig Benson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craig_Benson)? He's a fiscal conservative, pro-life, was friendly toward the Free State Project, and is independently wealthy.

He lost reelection in 2004, but isn't it time for a comeback?

A one term governor from a small state - might be good to have in the race, but I don't think he could contend.

That's the problem. He lost re-election, in fact, his was one of the only gubernatorial regimes to last a single term (which is only 2 years). And not only did he lose, but he lost b/c of scandal. He was a great guy, I've met him, but he has too many albatrosses around his neck to compete.
