Did anyone here feel totally stunned by George W getting elected the 1st time and devastated the 2nd time.

I walked around in a total daze of disbelief the 2nd time what about you?

I will never forget the conversation I had with a friend in the Navy in the fall of 2000. "He's practically making another war in Iraq a campaign promise and there's no reason for it! Do the servicemen really like being used this way?!"

I blamed it on P.T. Barnum. There may well be a sucker born every minute, but he didn't have to point that fact out to the damned Roves and Cheneys of this world...

I voted for Bush in 2000. I still cant stand socialist Gore to this day. Back then I thought GWB was a conservative. So for me the election was easy.

2004 I voted for Bush. I still think Kerry is a dipshit. But I was starting to loose faith in GWB and the GOP, started to have my own revolution on what is it I believe. (what started the personal revolution was that in May of 2003 I became a gunowner for the first time.)
Read many books on guns, liberty, libertarian movement and the Bill of Rights. This is the time I first heard of Ron Paul.

During Katrina in 2005 I voiced out load that I left the GOP forever. My default Political beliefs are libertarian and bill of Rights. (I then realize I have backed myself into one hell of a tight political corner......in today's Amerika.

2006 discovered Ron Paul run was running...I had faith again.

So Working Poor, yes I blame Bush for many things. But I will NEVER vote for the Dems. too left, I'm not a socialist nor a marxist.

But I'm not suprised a dem won the whitehouse. Given how damn bad Bush was NO member of the GOP could keep the seat R.....not even Reagan. Thats how bad Bush was.

So right now I'm "feel totally stunned" "and devastated" for my country. Thats how bad the dems will be. (and I still have no stomach for the Dems-lite party ei the GOP either)

Today I just wait for the revolution that WILL happen. We cant do what we are doing AND NOT have big stress fractures........becuase again I have ZERO faith the DEMs will NOT grow Govt....they LOVE GOVT.

Good Luck Working Poor

I was asleep in 2004, the first year I was old enough to vote.

It was nice missing out on what I am sure was a hair pulling situation. :D

What really shocked me was when Bush got elected for a 3rd term.

nothing would have changed with Kerry

That's how I felt and he offered no solutions. It was his race to lose.

The essence of the problem is still the two-party control over the system. If you hated Bush in 2004, the Republicans of course would not allow two of their own candidates at once, so your only other viable option was Kerry (or Gore in 2000). That wasn't a great option for most Republicans, so there you go.

The same thing will happen in 2012. Unless Obama can outdo in Bush in low favorability ratings, the Dems will still vote for him. Same situation reversed.

Had the democrats nominated Yeaaaaaw! man from vermont they might have been able to beat Bush in 2004 but they nominated a guy that was all over the place on the war trying to gage where the public opinion was.
In 2000 I was voting for a man that said he against the Clinton wars of intervention.

The first time I was upset, but I knew that while the environment may suffer the economy would end up better off so I wasn't too pissed. I was a freshman in college and there were girls literally just crying.. they thought Roe vs. Wade was going to be overturned and all sorts of 'horrible' things. I reassured them there is no way Bush is going to overturn Roe vs. Wade, and that everything would be ok. I was right about the first part.

The second time I was REALLY pissed
