"Violence has been unrelenting in Iraq and the suicide bombing in Baghdad was among a series of attacks tempering U.S. claims of success in taming the capital just days before a pivotal progress report is due to be delivered to Congress by the top commander in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus, and U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker."

Yeah, but we are retaining our "honor", while we borrow $3 billion a day from China and Japan to finance this fiasco and to supposedly save face, per Huckabee. Heck, if we followed Huckabee's logic, we would still be in Viet Nam and over 1 million American soldiers would be dead.

As RP said, talking about surges is irrelevant. It's a trap set by the administration to avoid having a real debate - a debate about leaving Iraq entirely. Think about it, whatever happens with the surge - Bush wins. If it reduces violence, a greater U.S. presence appears justified and the U.S. stays in Iraq. If it fails, a lesser U.S. presence looks like the way to go - and the U.S. stays in Iraq.

Bush wins because his real goal was the one he told his biographer. He said he's
"playing for October-November.” He said that the goal in Iraq is “to get us in a position where the presidential candidates will be comfortable about sustaining a presence.”

The policy is staying forever... debating the surge is like moving deck-chairs on the Titanic.

We shouldn't underestimate the power of the people, though.
