Dear Ron Paul Supporter,
Ron Paul is already popular online. We know this from the many online polls he has won, including Slashdot's recent "Best Presidential Candidate for Nerds" poll a few days ago which Paul won hands-down. He's especially popular with bloggers. We know this from all the blog posts being written about him, his digg popularity, and high technorati ranking.
But can that online popularity translate into real-world success? To do that, his campaign needs money, lots of it, and soon. I have an idea that I think is novel, 100% legal, and could translate into a widespread show of support for Paul, both online and financially.
The idea is simple yet powerful:
GOOGLE'S ADVERTISERS CAN FINANCE PAUL'S CAMPAIGN.
Let me explain. Google has a program called Google Adsense. You've probably seen that on many websites and blogs there is a section called "Ads by Google". The ads in that area are generated by Adsense. Bloggers get paid by Google for displaying these ads.
So, let's suppose that all the bloggers and webmasters out there that support Ron Paul were to sign-up for AdSense and pledge 50% of their earnings to Paul's campaign! Or better yet, 100%! Think about it: Signing up for AdSense is free. Better than free -- Google actually pays you. So, of that newfound extra income, why not donate some or all of it to Paul? If thousands of online Ron Paul supporters were to do this, we could generate some real cash. And because it will be coming from *LOTS* of individuals, we don't have to worry much about going over the $2,300 individual contribution limit.
The Google4Paul Pledge is very simple:
"I, the webmaster of this website or weblog, hereby pledge to donate 50% of my Google Adsense earnings to the Ron Paul for President 2008 campaign, up to the limits prescribed by law."
There are actually three pledges available: gold, silver, and bronze. The above is the bronze pledge, and represents a 50% donation. Silver represents 75%. Gold represents 100%.
But let's take it one step further. We can and should make our pledges public by displaying on our web pages an image representing that pledge. This will raise the visibility of the pledges and further demonstrate the level of support that Paul has. Much like past "ribbon" campaigns on the internet, it will help to raise awareness about Paul's campaign amongst people that may have never heard of him. And it will make it obvious that this campaign has real momentum and support.
I have already created images for the pledge, and a website to explain the pledge and where to find more information about Paul's campaign. I have also created a directory of pledgers. This directory contains a free link back to your website. So all that remains is for you to take the pledge.
Participating is easy:
1) Choose whether to pledge 50%, 75%, or 100% of your adsense earnings to his campaign.
2) Display your pledge publically on your blog or website.
3) Receive Adsense payment and donate your pledged percentage to Paul.
Go to http://Google4Paul.org to get started now. You can make a difference.
