It is very possible, but only if Ted Stevens, the Alaskan Senator convicted for corruption, is able to hold on to his slim lead in this election. Which brings us to some very strange scenarios.
First of all, if Stevens wins, there is a good chance that he will be expelled by his fellow Senators. It has happened 15 times in our history. The first Senator expelled was William Blount, who was expelled in 1797 for the act of treason. He was charged with conspiring with and agent of the British government, but he was never convicted and the case has still not been proven. Then between 1861 and 1862 14 Senators were expelled for supporting the secession of the Southern States. It takes a 2/3 vote of the Senate to expel a Senator. A simple thing to do, especially since the Democrats will have at least 57% of the members. Where would the others come from ? Republicans who support Governor Palin and would love to see her on the national scene in preparation for a run....

Honestly I hope not. That will just give the neocons who want to draft her in 2012, more reason to do so.

Really, I think she is very misguided.

She toed the line for the GOP. Unless she comes out and says she was not for all the neocon policies and just wanted to get into the VP office to help change them, then she is bad.

I watched her support the bailout and spew Iraq War propaganda, I am no supporter of hers.

from what I can gather, this wouldn't happen, and there would be a special election 60 or 90 days after Stevens was removed from office (if he really is elected).

I sure hope we don't have a special election, it could give the Dems another chance at getting another seat.

Oh I certainly hope not. That would be terribly unfortunate for everyone except for the Daily Show.

I have a feeling Alaska will be doing something about her real soon.

at what?

Watch her results on speech analysis... when she doesn't know; "also" "and" "like" "darn" ...

Never have I've seen such a fool, try to use the political artistic mode of lying.

ignorant + lying = fool

If I was running the GOP campaign, I would be embarassed trying to put intellectual lipstick on this pig.

PTA is more Palin's caliber

The rules in this situation is for the legislature to elect a new Senator if the legislature is in session, and for the Governor to appoint one if it is out of session. The special election is held at the next General Election where Federal candidates are elected.

Mrs. Palin and her "Iraq War is God's will" crap can go to hell. And only having an Israeli flag in her office, not even a US flag, can also suck the big fat one.

No thanks.

Mrs. Palin and her "Iraq War is God's will" crap can go to hell.

That's not what she said. She said "We can only pray that we are doing God's will."

That's the voice of uncertainty.

There has to be a special election. I think Sean Parnell (the Lt gov who ran against Young in the primary) is the obvious choice and would be a good Senator.

Besides, Palin is much more suited to a governor's role than a legislative role.

There won't be a special election until 2010. In the meantime, Palin gets to pick his successor should the need arise.

Palin Hoping to be Named Ambassador to Africa

I wonder if this is the deal AIPAC has made with Obama/Emanuel/Pritzer to show some BS Bi-Partisan PR crap? Of course Sarkozy is mentioned(as Usual)

Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska has reached out to President-elect Obama's transition team to indicate her interest in being named "ambassador to the nation of Africa," the governor confirmed today.

Gov. Palin said that although she had planned to continue in her position in Juneau, she was willing to leave the governorship "because Africa is just such a darned important country."

"I have always been very, very interested in the nation of Africa, partly because of it being located where it is," she said. "If you are standing in Africa and you look real close, you can see South Africa."

Where's the country of Africa? no, not South Africa.
