Many will find the following to be Racist. It is not however. This my plea to finally stop Racism.... and Reverse Racism specifically.

Obama has made history. Like it or not the events of this election are by far one of the historic moments in our nation. After many years of slavery, segregation, and racism in our country a African American has reached that highest platueu. Even if Obama leads our nation down the wrong path it is a victory for those that suffered through our nations history.

Now here is my plea.... quit with getting extra privileges based on race. If you truly want to end racism it must be done on both sides. Equality should mean just that.... being equal. It does not mean you deserve any more, or less then someone of any color.

I am sick of BET, NAACP, and other groups formed to specifically help only one race. We also celebrate Black History month each year. I have no actual problem with any of these things. Where the problem lies is if you try to have anything similar for another Race.... Imagine WET (White Entertainment Television) or Asian History Month (How many were enslaved and dies building our nations railroad?) Maybe we can get the NAASP (National Association Advancement of Spanish People) Maybe you see my point? If any other group did any such thing they would be chastised as racist immediately.

My last point is the word ****** Yes, I just said it ******. The N-Word is such a lost cause. If anyone other then a African American uses it they are doomed. Radio hosts have lost jobs, people have been killed for it. Yet turn on MTV, or any Hip-Hop station and you will hear the N-Word dozens of times.

So Mr. President Elect Obama, I ask of you to call together EVERY race, People of EVERY color, background, religion, and creed. You have shown the world that the impossible is possible, you have shown the land of dreams can be reality. You have shattered the past, and broken into the future. Now can you guide the rest of people to find true equality?

Yeah Obama just proved that a black man can attain the highest level of office in our government, so there really should be no need to give handouts to anyone any more. Instead they should follow his example. Somehow though I'm sure it will be business as usual.

I was just listening to NPR and they were interviewing a bunch of black people about the election. Almost everyone of them said "I am so proud to be an african american today"

Jesus christ. I cant stand these nationalistic bastards.

Could you imagine what would have happened if the majority of mainstream white america went around talking about how proud they are to be white if McCain won?

"BET" is not an organization to help black people. It's business. Every station selects its target demographic and panders to it. Lifetime, Oxygen, etc. cater to a subset of females. SPEED, ESPN, etc. cater to a subset of males. Do guys watch "girl channels" and women watch "guy channels"? Yes, but you will see the commercials geared towards a specific demographic. There are "white" people who watch BET.

This argument comes up when Spanish-language channels are brought up, and usually ends with something eloquent like "learn English, jerks." What people fail to realize is that one can converse and do business in English, and still be more comfortable speaking Spanish, or want to watch the news and entertainment from nations that contributed to one's culture. In other words, they're pandering to a client base with certain money to spend. I'm sure some of you perfectly gringo males have turned on a Spanish-language show before, even if you didn't understand a word! This is just business.

I do agree with the concept of the OP, though: stop pandering on my dime. Stop the hypocrisy of crying racism when something goes wrong, and pride when it goes right. Stop making assumptions based on skin color (or even perceived skin color, considering there are an awful lot of "races" covered by what could only be described as a "dark tan"). Hire the best person for the job, and if that means you end up with ten white guys (because they actually had the qualifications, education, and best interviews) working for you then so be it! If it means you have ten guys black as pitch so be it, or a mixture of whatever random people are around. The moment we start to bring race into the equation in an attempt to be "fair" we are inherently being unfair.

Think of it like good ole Communism. Everyone getting the same standard of living sounds okay, in theory, but who decides what standard? Who oversees it all and makes sure everything's equal? The Government, of course, and then we become unequal by default. Those people in charge have more power, and they will be bribed, and they will get perks, and that's how the ball gets rolling. Has no one noticed the "leaders" crying discrimination live awfully well? They live far better than the lower class members of the race or gender that is "keeping them down." Even if Obama hadn't won, I'm at least glad I don't think he would have cried "discrimination," because frankly being a Senator who got to run for President, with a wife and two kids, and a damned good household income... you get the picture.

So yay OP, but also don't forget it's perfectly okay to have networks geared towards certain demographics if there's money to be found.

Not really, ESPN caters to sports fans. There is no 'male' network just like there is no 'white' network. The closest thing you have to an outwardly male network is spike.

Do guys watch "girl channels" and women watch "guy channels"? Yes, but you will see the commercials geared towards a specific demographic. There are "white" people who watch BET.

Advertising to a demographic is one thing, having a channel dedicated to a race or gender is another.

Let me know when I can watch the news in America with news casters that give a flip about Americas culture.

In other words, they're pandering to a client base with certain money to spend. I'm sure some of you perfectly gringo males have turned on a Spanish-language show before, even if you didn't understand a word! This is just business.

I actually linger on the spanish channels because the women on there are hotter than the english channels...and I don't even have a thing for latinas.

That is a different story I suppose.

So yay OP, but also don't forget it's perfectly okay to have networks geared towards certain demographics if there's money to be found.

Let me know when the WHITE ENTERTAINMENT NETWORK kicks off. Oh wait, I guess there is no money in that, right?

The double standard is obvious. I wish it would all go away, but it won't. This whole election was about race. The candidates were basically two different flavors of socialist, the issues didn't matter to most.

Well, the phrase, "The Man is keeping me down..." isn't a very good excuse anymore, because THE MAN is now a brother.

In all seriousness I'm happy in a way that some boundaries have been torn down. Not only is OB black, but Barrack Hussein Obama is a very ethnic name, and he's a first generation African American.

You can be black or a minority, or have an non-American sounding name or have parentage from other countries and other religions, and still become the leader of this country. It is a great moment in history.

I just hope it's not followed by the worst moment in history with a socialistic agenda that ruins our constitution. I complained about that a lot yesterday, today I'm looking at the bright side. I can have HOPE. Yes I can.

Egalitarianism as a Revolt Against Nature by Murray N. Rothbard (http://www.lewrockwell.com/rothbard/rothbard31.html)

Hah!

I like that we have one word discriptors... we save on typing. :)

Moral and legal egalitarianism

The United States Declaration of Independence includes a kind of moral and legal egalitarianism. Because "all men are created equal," each man is to be treated equally under the law. Similar to many other developed nations of the time, it was not until much later that the U.S. society extended these benefits to slaves, women and other groups. Over time, universal egalitarianism has won wide adherence and is a core component of modern civil rights policies.

EQUAL? Not in this country! Racism, Discrimination, and Nepotism run far and deep in American Politics. Congress and their pandering to "Whatever" is an absolute PREFECT EXAMPLE.

Declaration of Independence... is gone!

It would help if most pop culture aimed at African Americans wasn't jungle music.

Declaration of Independence... is gone!

Excerpt from Our Enemy, the State by Albert Jay Nock

As well as one can put a date to such an event, the surrender at Yorktown marks the sudden and
complete disappearance of the Declaration’s doctrine from the political consciousness of America.
Mr. Jefferson resided in Paris as minister to France from 1784 to 1789. As the time for his return to
America drew near, he wrote Colonel Humphreys that he hoped soon “to possess myself anew, by
conversation with my countrymen, of their spirit and ideas. I know only the Americans of the year
1784. They tell me this is to be much a stranger to those of 1789.” So indeed he found it. On
arriving in New York and resuming his place in the social life of the country, he was greatly
depressed by the discovery that the principles of the Declaration had gone wholly by the board. No
one spoke of natural rights and popular sovereignty; it would seem actually that no one had ever
heard of them. On the contrary, everyone was talking about the pressing need of a strong central
coercive authority, able to check the incursions which “the democratic spirit” was likely to incite
upon “the men of principle and property.”28

Mr. Jefferson wrote despondently of the contrast of all this with the sort of thing he had been
hearing in the France which he had just left “in the first year of her revolution, in the fervour of
natural rights and zeal for reformation.” In the process of possessing himself anew of the spirit and
ideas of his countrymen, he said, “I can not describe the wonder and mortification with which
the table conversations filled me.” Clearly, though the Declaration might have been the charter for
American independence, it was in no sense the charter of the new American State.

I think it escapes people how socially programmed we are as a race to move in the direction of statism. Nock's book does a great service in explaining via historical evidence just how ingrained statism is in the minds of the masses.

The declaration was written by Jefferson alone. The monstrosity of the Constitution, while theoretically better than what we have if only we were to follow it, is the concoction of land speculators and merchants, who we affectionately refer to as the "founding fathers". Nock does an excellent job in contrasting the ideals of liberty, and popular government embodied in the Declaration with the Constitution which is the embodiment of the merchant-state.

A quick trip to Spike dot com reveals that this is the "premiere online destination for men," and features a charming ad for a show that will explore which animal is the horniest.

Lifetime is "television for women."

I recall viewing Nickelodeon as a child, and now there are literally hundreds of "children's channels" out there via various subscriptions and cable providers.

BET is "black entertainment"

You can get channels in Russian, Chinese, Portugese, Italian, and they're all "closed-captioned, for the hearing impaired."

If you'd like to start WET, go right ahead! It's a business venture, and if it's not successful I suppose you can whine about there not having been a market. It's a reflection of our society, which I agreed with you is full of double standards. The fact that people make money off of the stupid sheep is not "bad," but it's bad that the sheep can't see themselves for what they're doing. Does that sink in better? Or shall we streamline all television to have an exact representation of demographics and be entirely geared towards everyone at every moment?

Choice and profit aren't the enemy here.

I guess I'll put it to you another way, since we're unlikely to see eye to eye. The television networks in question are available, have their demographic they're trying to appeal to, and that's that. They don't require one to be "black" to watch BET. A lot of these organizations... well let's just say you will have trouble joining the KKK if you're jet black, and the NAACP might look at you funny if you're lily white with a buzzcut and a rather crimson neck. There's nothing exclusive about being a tv channel. You have the right to change it. When you can't hire Bob because you need to hire Jane, because you have to fill a quota, that's where I have a problem. Especially in this economy.

As I said, we won't see eye to eye on it from your side, though I've agreed with you for the most part.

P.S. - While we're establishing that "fair" and colorblind world, make sure you get the porn channels and websites to comply! I'm sure all the men on earth will thank you when the women in those movies start reflecting the realities of the world, right? There are far too many scrawny skinny plastic "white" women on all those sites! And "Asian Delights XII" really is just too racist.

There's a point at which preference should just be left to the individual. Isn't that part of what this movement is about?
