Barack Obama's Royal Roots

Originally posted Monday March 03, 2008 08:55 AM EST
Barack Obama has connections in high places – like the British Royal Family.

So says British genealogist Robert Barrett, who traced the Democratic presidential hopeful's roots.

"Obama's mother, Ann, brought to his gene pool a descent from the 17th-century plantation owner Mareen Duvall," he told Britain's Sunday Telegraph (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/main.jhtml?menuId=6128&menuItemId=-1=MENUCONTENTFIRST&grid=A1&targetRule=0). "She is an ancestor of the Duchess of Windsor."

Wallis, Duchess of Windsor, is the only American to have married into the British royal family – Edward VIII abdicated the throne in 1936 to become her spouse. She died in April 1986.

But that's not all, according to the genealogist.

"[Obama] has a rich mixture of European ancestors, including the early medieval kings of England and Scotland, a signatory of the Magna Carta, and, for good measure, an Irish emigrant from County Offaly," he explained.

Obama is locked with Hillary Clinton in a close race for the Democratic presidential nomination. His famous supporters include Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Alba (http://www.people.com/people/jessica_alba) and Ryan Phillippe (http://www.people.com/people/ryan_phillippe).

what if we live in a world where andrew jackson never knew if one of his jackson
ancestors was a legitimate decendant of Edward III and he was a populist in a
very deep way? had he the awareness that washington, madison and jefferson
had about the legendary english king, could he have been as much of a populist?
i know that wahington, madison and jefferson have Edward III as an ancestor...

there was a guy who spent eight years in the tower of london under cromwell.
the fellow's last name was jackson. the dude dies in 1666 in the north
of ireland. andrew jackson has both his parents emigrating from a
small town near belfast on the irish coast. andrew jackson is scots-irish...
that sorta makes "auld hickory" out to be a White Anglo-Saxon Protestant!!!

and yes, barack obama is half-wasp and having some aristocratic blood!!!
