So I'm at a hacking convention this weekend and one of the presentations were some good old boys here from TN showing everyone how to build their OWN AK47 from spare parts. Their information is here:

All right, this thread's an all-inclusive front-row seat to get a premo spot on "the list!"

It is completely legal to build your own semi auto ak or other firearm. It would just be illegal to sell it.

Yeah, so long as you register it...

No need to register, then again check state laws.

But giving it away is legal. And you are allowed to build as many as you want.

Giving away is legal? are you sure? I could have sworn the laws meant you perminetely had to own the gun you build

Dude, I'm not trying to play Uncle Sam's advocate here, but building as many as you want, giving away or selling them without registering...have you ever heard of the ATF?

If the aforementioned activities could go on without concern of the ATF jumping you, there'd be hordes of gunsmiths out there building and selling their own stuff; it'd eliminate the profit margin of the current OEMs, and building AK47s would be a safe bet given their looser tolerances.

If you build it yourself, you can't sell it. However you can give it away. But at around $300/pop thats kind of an expensive gift.

That's only if you make your own receiver. If you buy a receiver through a FFL. you can build up the rifle and sell it, trade it, whatever.

This is the BEST site that I have found for the AK builder. Its a one stop shop for the beginner. They sell all the tools and have lots of build resources. AK builder (http://ak-builder.com/index.php)

"The LIST" I am sure I am on lists. And I have NO firearms. That is just one of the lists.

If you are not on a list you are not trying hard enough.
