I have heard that the government does not have any silver reserves anymore. They now have to buy it at the market price. So even if a president did try to use this today, there would be no silver to back it.

I don't think that is true at all. If you search for it, Dr. Paul has spoken about this. He had one of his aides research this at one time.

This whole deal about this being the reason he was killed is being trumped up. I don't think it had one solitary thing with the reason he was killed.

This was not the sole reason he was killed but it was arguably the biggest reason he was killed. Apparently, Johnson rescinded this EO on the plane back to Washington from Dallas.

This is very important and relevant to Ron Paul and his supporters given the fact that Ron Paul wants to wean America off the Fed. I would be suspect of those who try to downplay the importance of this information.
