Over the past year, our stock market has crashed some 40 percent. Our Congress passed a "stimulus" package and gave away $700 billion to the banks. Now, they are planning another "stimulus" package. The Federal Reserve Chairman, Ben Bernanke, has been increasing our money supply through back-door loans to banks, which devalues our currency. Not to mention the fact that the Secretary of Treasury is Henry Paulson, who was Goldman Sachs' CEO. Are we to trust a former investment banker to give away $700 billion, maybe more, to his Wall Street insider friends?

Both major presidential candidates voted for the wealth transfer. Now let me address some other grievances of our government. The war in Iraq and Afghanistan continue while we are threatening Iran and supporting the Georgians in their conflict with Russia. How many more conflicts can we handle before we go broke? How many men are we willing to lose?

The "War On Terror" is a war on a tactic. So long as we are occupying other countries and have bases all over the world we won't eliminate terrorism. How would all the people here in southern Illinois react if there was a Chinese military brigade in Carbondale's town square? We would probably go get our guns, tell all of our families to get their pickup trucks ready to go and go teach them whose land this is.

It is time for us to evaluate what this country was founded on and for our representatives to follow the rule of law. Yet more and more Americans are starting to believe that the government can provide their health care efficiently. How is this possible? Fourteen percent of Americans approve of our Congress; Social Security is failing, Medicare is failing, Medicaid is failing, the wars are continuing, our homes are losing value, and banks are failing.

We need to learn how to help ourselves and the people around us instead of turning to the know-nothings in Washington and Springfield to solve our problems for us. Don't allow government actions to prolong our agony like they did in the 1930s.

For your reading pleasure :)
