View Full Version : Are you running for public office?

It has disappointed me to see how few people are running for public office and instead spend their spare time on here, and I would like to see some percentages on this. If you have a valid excuse in your opinion post it here and I, the one and only member of the RPF ethics committee will determine it's validity.

Well I'm only 20, and still in college.

Until I find a long-term residence I do not plan to. I am going to be moving in under a year so I did not think it a good idea to run this year.

I probably will in 2010, but if not then for sure 2012 or whatever.

No not this year, but I plan on running for state representative in New Hampshire after I move and become eligible.

I am running very seriously for city council in 2011. I already have a treasury. I will also probably run for whatever office in 2010 that the local liberty guys don't have an option for, although that will be more for getting my name out there, maybe a bigger office... depends what is going on locally. I refuse to run against libertarians, liberty republicans, and greens. So if there is a state-wide or federal office with no real option on the ballot for our people, I will probably get on the ballot just to give them a choice and get some interviews and exposure that would help with the city council run.

Didn't realize there were so many college students here (as I am) and that's a valid excuse. One major bogus "reason" is a "colorful" or "bad" past, as pretty much every politician has that

I want to in the future. I'd love to be a state senator.

Active duty military, not allowed.

Hah. Wonder why. :D

Now that would be a revolution.

When I get to Colorado, I'll look into it.

There's a wealth of angry, libertarian-leaning young liberals to tap into.

No, I am 18 years old.

I am working on becoming a precinct committeeman, but I need to be sure that I have a fairly permanent residence first. Also, I plan on moving to a precinct that has a spot open, when timing and funds permit.

I'm still too young to run, at least at the federal level. While I will quite possibly run for Congress some years from now, I'll have to spend some time in the private sector first if I want anyone whatsoever to take me seriously around here. If I'm going to take on Steve Chabot in a Republican primary around here, I'm going to make sure I "do it right." In the meantime, I'm spending time educating myself.

At the local and state levels, I'm not sure how successful libertarian policies would be at the moment...after all, the federal government ties everyone's hands so much that if state-level regulations were removed in the wrong order, the resulting combination could spell disaster. For that reason, I'd have trouble coming up with a comprehensive and workable platform at the state level...other than working to assert Ohio's sovereignty.

No, someone else in my household is already running!

I was considering running too but had a work conflict with that particular office.

Maybe another year....

Not a really big office but I am running for local school board. If I am successful, in the future I hope to run for city council and state representative eventually.

I voted yes, but to clarify, I DID run and I lost the primary. I'm no longer running.

No, I would never run, but I'd love to run someone's campaign.I'm running a campaign for a state senate candidate right now. I'm learning a lot about state and local politics but I'm very naive, I think, and idealistic and have managed to stay pretty insulated from the real dirty stuff so far. I think it's mostly because our campaign is extremely underfunded and undermanned and no one expects us to achieve anything. Which is somewhat disheartening, really.

Politics is not the way to achieve freedom. This is something that I am learning, though. We'll see how things progress after the election. I'm anxious to get CFL organized in Vermont. I'm also looking toward playing a bigger role in the GOP.

Ultimately I don't think we're really going to have enough time to effect change on the state level to counteract the effects of whatever the presidential election gives us. The plans have been laid down for some time, set up by Bush to be implemented by his successor.

At least I can say I tried.

In 2008? No. In the future? Probably.
I already toyed with running for Mayor in 2006. I'm glad I decided not to.:)

No, I'm too young. I'm twenty and you have to be 21 to be in the state congress. Anyways, it's impossible to get elected as an Independent and I refuse to remain a Republican.

I am better at fundraising/events/media. I will surely be assisting the several liberty folk in the GOP and LP locally who plan to run in a couple of years. I'm excited to say we have a few who are going to run for local offices. Tones

I plan to, but not this time around.. still too green.

Ron Paul only cured my apathy last year and am still learning the ropes....

Looking at running for something in 2010...

Unless running for an internship in Congressman Paul's office counts :D

I don't want to be a politician to be honest. I do however want to locate plenty of candidates for our next election cycles where I live though.

I enjoy being at home, not in the front of everyone in the city at all times. Having to be on my best behavior while out. No fun really, I can't run around naked as mayor... or can I? hmmnn.

Im thinking about taking a stab at one of the local offices next election season in my town.
