View Full Version : Write-in Mickey Mouse. Seriously.

What's serious about this? Mickey is a cartoon character!

Exactly. Both political parties have ignored the wishes of a vast number of their members (if not the majority), and both parties together have ignored the wishes of a large number of independents and outsiders. Either of the two candidates is unacceptable to a large number of the American people. Up until now, there has been no good way for voters to express their dissatisfaction with the choices offered. You can stay home, but we're used to low turnouts; you can write in your dad, but that just goes in the trash.

If every voter who is disgusted with the candidates on offer writes in "Mickey Mouse", however, then by law, that name must be reported. Imagine the impact if 25%, 30%, even 40% of voters do this!

But Mickey can't win, can he?

Most likely not. But if a vast number of voters dislike the candidates (and the eventual victor) so much as to write in a cartoon character, the new President will have little or no political capital . . .

Why Mickey?

Because everyone in the world knows how to spell his name. In order to be counted on a write-in ballot, you have to get the name exactly right.

Why shouldn't I write in somebody else, or vote for a third party minor candidate?

Are you expecting millions of other people to vote for that same person? Didn't think so. If only a handful of people write in a name, or vote for a minor candidate, it just vanishes into the "Other" category and gets totally ignored. If millions of people write in the same name, though, that is a message that the media and political parties cannot ignore.

Won't this weaken the President who is elected?

Yes! That's the whole idea! Are you really content with the direction of leadership that John McCain or Barack Obama appear to be offering? If you are, then go right ahead and vote for the one you prefer. You should vote for the person who you really believe is right for president. But if you can't align yourself with either McCain or Obama, given that one of them will surely be President, wouldn't it be better for him to be weakened, and thus less able to lead us in the wrong direction?

This will make our government a joke!

Isn't it already? Is this really going to make things any worse than they already are? But it might embarass the political parties enough, to give better choices next time around.

Better than voting McCain or Obama.

But why Mickey? Why not Donald Duck, Bugs Bunny, Scooby Doo, Duke the Dog (from Bush's Baked Beans), etc., etc.?

Mickey Mouse is easy to spell, easy to remember, easy to organize around.

this is funny, because the other day i got in a fight with my Obama supporting friend in which i called him a socialist and she got mad. Then she slowly began to say, well "its about voting for the lesser of two evils." and then i got mad. In the end she texted me to vote for Kermit The Frog because 'what difference does it make this state is screwed." Then she told me to read Blowback and i said read Foreign Policy of Freedom.

Trust me, I've considered doing just that. Writing in Mickey Mouse. It'll count as much as writing in Ron Paul, but it won't be a vote for the Fascist or the Socialist.

I knew a woman once who always and only voted for Snoopy. I couldn't vote for Snoopy now, because they'd probably misunderstand and think I was casting my vote for Bush and the NSA.

I'd love to see Mickey go above 5% and receive federal funding for 2012.

He'll forego his salary for all of it he and Minnie can consume. I like the cut of his jib.
