Hi, I'm writing an article and was curious if anyone had the data for how much the purchasing power of $1 increased from 1820-1913. I know from 1913-now our Dollar has lost over 96% of its purchasing power, but I can't find any data for how much our purchasing power actually increased from about 1820-1913. If anyone could provide me with a link or a stat I'd be very appreciative!! :D

Here's a simple consumer price index calculator I have in my bookmarks.

http://cost.jsc.nasa.gov/inflateCPI.html

It only goes up to '04 tho.
