It's down another 678 points and is now under 9,000! Amazing...amazing......

What's scary is that I heard the talking heads on CNBC say that this might only be the beginning and that this can go on until mid 2009.

I'm sure there will be days ahead of sucker rallies to keep the market propped up, but how low can we expect to see the Dow in the near future? Under 5,000?

When we go under 7,000 I think the media then will start the BIG panic..

I thought 7800 would be the bottom - but now I dont know. Maybe it could fall all the way to 0

I'm afraid to guess anymore. But I do think Peter Schiff is right - that the Dow and Gold will meet before it's over.

+1. His prediction was them meeting at 5,000 if I remember correctly..

It won't reach zero since american companies still have value. Problem is the last decade or so we have gotten rid of a lot of value(outsourcing, loss of manufacturing) and replaced it with fluff. Now the fluff is being blown away.

He never stated an exact number that he thinks it will meet at, just that they will meet before this is over. The others tried to prod him into a number and he gave a few examples... 5000 was one of them, but I think he was just throwing it out there.

I heard some forecast a probable decline of around 60%.

That was probably at around 12,000 points, so that would be around 4,800 points. 5,000 is a good guess.

But they did say 60% OR MORE.
