I don't post much and I believe this is my first thread. I've been a lurker since the day this forum was established. I just read the line quoted in the title and my heart sank. Here's the article. (http://biz.yahoo.com/rb/081009/business_us_financial.html)

What are your thoughts?

Yeah it worked great for Soviet Russia, and socialist Germany, and socialist Italy.

Wait didn't all those economies eventually fall on their own and get replaced with markets again? I'll note they also all fell into fascism before they collapsed to give way to freer systems.

The government should take all of David Mackie's assets and see if he still feels the same way after that.

Half of Erupoe(sic) are socialist and they are still afloat.
They may not be doing well, though that is opinion, but they didn't collapse, yet.

Ehh is it really as socialized as say the USSR was over there? I was under the impression it was still a mishmash of free market and socialism like we have here, just a few years ahead of us.

"It's not entirely obvious that these measures are turning the tide," Mackie said. "At the end of the day, if you socialize enough of the financial system, it has to work."

I think Mr. Mackie (lol) needs to step away from the crack pipe.
