View Full Version : Would you fight for your country?

Forget about Iraq. If we were to be attacked by someone like Russia...if we were to be attacked and drawn into a World War which means, no matter how you feel about our government, your family and friends will be in danger...would you fight for your country? I'm talking about a world war and one we would be not only justified in fighting but drawn into by being attacked first and we'd be dead in the water if we did not defend ourselves.

Except that I am a 45 year old female. But on 9/11 I would have enlisted. Getting attacked means we have to defend ourselves.

In the words of Chris Rock:

The other thing they've been trying to get Clinton on is gays in the military. Everybody's all homophobic - "Ooh, don't let him in.." Hey! If they want to fight, let 'em fight, 'cause I ain't fighting! I wouldn't care if I saw a Russian tank on Flatbush Avenue. I'm not fighting nobody!

I would enlist if the United States was under attack (ie Russia/China/South America), not some policing job in a 3rd world nation.

That's why I tried to be very exact on what type of war I believe is coming. I'd never enlist to fight someone elses war or be some sort of world policeman.

What would your militia do to protect the country against a Russian or Chinese military force?

Now I would fight in a Militia or a band of citizen resisters too if we were suddenly invaded, like the movie Red Dawn.

You forgot to add an option if America's borders were attacked. I would not have to be drafted under that senario.

I would not enlist and I'd leave the country if drafted. Ciao, America lol. I'll fight to defend myself and my family, but that's about it. I would rather fight alongside the invader[s] Let's put it this way... I'll fight for whichever side puts a gun to my head, but the first chance I get, I'm going to flee from battle. Statist wars are not worth it.

Now in reality they would use bombs and possibly nukes. I just dont know.. 90 percent of the population would likely die in an all out war with russia or china.

The US Military is a joke. Militia's, everyone owning a gun, and willingness to die for your country when it is "Just" are the only things we need to depend on for the survival of our Country.

Edit* I mean no disrespect to the soldiers, I just think they are ill informed.

No, I would not fight in the armed forces. i may fight along side them defending my town, but i would not take orders. anybody coming near my house will get a healthy dose of lead.

if i was drafted, F*** you uncle sam, i'm out.

Really? Even the large percentage that chose to support Ron Paul?

As a veteran and a military spouse, I think this whole thread is a disappointment.

also, think how militias in iraq have plagued the sefl proclaimed greatest military in the world. armies surrender because there is somebody who can surrender. militias don't, at least not on a national level. just think if *insert country name here* had to go town to town, city to city, hillside to hillside across the USA. If there is only militias, they'll never be a mass, instant surrender. each town becomes fallejua. the invading force would have to be ridiculously large, or else resort to nuclear weapons.

this question, although thought provoking, assumes that only a government army could protect the homeland.

At this point in history I would not enlist for a couple reasons. First among them is that I have no faith in our leaders; the same leaders who would be using my life to win this fight. Second, I have no interest in defending the American people of 2008. I would have fought and died in a WWII setting, when I believe our people were worth fighting for... they weren't self-serving, spoiled piles of shit like they are today (generalization, but there you go). Back then they still believed in honor, sacrifice, etc.

I definitely think it's an easy trap to fall into - thinking times back then were better than they actually were... but looking at the evidence, looking at my grandparents, etc. gives me this impression.

Why would I fight for a people who can't even get off their ass to vote for somebody who isn't destroying our country? If they can't be bothered, either can I.

No formal military for me either.
In Iraq, who had a stronger impact: Saddam's official military or insurgents working on their own? Saddam's military just lined up and waited to be shot. The independent insurgents are still giving the US military fits. I'd become an insurgent.

I would fight if I was being attacked. Now if Russia or some other ww3 version comes to pass and ends up being fought on u.s. soil, I would have bigger things to worry about.

Would I go fight in wars outside the u.s. ? A few years ago? HELL YEAH!!!!! Now? HELL NO!!!!

I am not fighting and dieing in some war to make some assholes money or to push political bullshit on some other nation BY FORCE.

I'm rather disgusted by the people here that would not defend our country if we were attacked.

I mean, if it's something we started, or if some totalitarian dictator has come to power here and the world attacked us to stop him, that's one thing. But if we were attacked without provocation, of course I would enlist and defend my country.

It won't happen, though. Still, if people care so little about this country, why don't you go ahead and leave now? No one's forcing you to stay.

I would fight to defend my fellow countrymen and women, but I would never fight to defend the united states government, which is essentially what we would be doing in your hypothetical situation.

What good could come from your situation?

The Russians win and we are ruled by the corrupt Russian government...
Or the USA wins and we are ruled by the corrupt US government.

I'll take neither, and I sure as shit am not putting my life on the line in this situation.

If they come to attack us, they will not kill civilians like we have been in wars, they will simply try to wipe out our military and our government. Clearly some civilians would die, but I believe they would be a lot more careful than we are in Iraq.

+1

Just because I don't want to sign up for the army does not mean I would not STOP an invader from attacking myself or those around me. If America was attacked with a full on invasion, I know most in my area would pick up their weapons and go head first into the conflict and remove the invaders as fast as possible. I know there are plenty of men, women and even youth who would fight to the death to stop us from being invaded, overtaking and so on WITHOUT having to enlist in the military which would odds are station us out of country anyways.....

I could see myself enlisting as an officer if a legitimate threat to our security happened that we did not intentionally create.

the difference between libertarianism(I've always been libertarian) and anarchism is a belief that the nation DOES have a responsibility to protect you from harm. while the militia is probably the wisest instrument to use for this, we don't really have time to switch the system around. when a foreign nation is bombing you, you gotta do something right then and there to protect everyone.

Umm.. where's the option for, I'M ALREADY IN THE ARMY?

Of course I'd fight.

I went to Iraq in 2004, only to discover that this whole war is illegal and based on false pretexts. If I had to go back, it would only be reluctantly to fulfill my duty.

But if there was ever a real revolution, or if our borders were being invaded, count me in. I believe chances are, however, that we'll just get more crap interventionism like the Iraq War. In that case, I'll just finish my time, get out, and become a politician.

If we are invaded, and the Ruskies are running around and are in a position to threaten my family, my local community, and even my state, I would fight.

Edit: I don't think I would actually enlist, but I would certainly work with local militia groups to defend our homes.

Why is that? I think a foreign occupational force would have much less ability to control our lives than a local tyrant who supposedly governs with our "consent".

Sorry...I don't trust the government with my life...and since the sheeple refuses to wake up and keeps reelecting the politicians that caused this mess, the last thing I'd do is risk my life for them.

Would you risk your life to defend someone who voted against Ron Paul and is ignorant or doesn't care about the Constitution?
