I wrote to Sen Obama against the bailout, and his reply sounds like he's pushing for a second one:

Thank you for writing to share your ideas and concerns about the current state of the U.S. economy.

From Wall Street to Main Street, the U.S. economy is in trouble. We have suffered 760,000 lost jobs since the beginning of this year, over a million families have lost their homes to foreclosure with millions more at risk, and many banks and other financial institutions are struggling to stay afloat. The bailout of investment bank Bear Stearns, the federal takeover of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the collapse of Lehman Brothers, the Federal Reserve’s emergency intervention to save AIG, and recent troubles at Washington Mutual and Wachovia demonstrate the seriousness of the situation we face.

In response to the crisis in our financial markets, Congress passed the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 (H.R. 1424). This legislation, which became public law on October 3, 2008, authorizes the Treasury Secretary to invest $700 billion in the purchase of bad assets from financial institutions, improving market liquidity and attempting to keep credit flowing to small businesses and consumers.

The President’s original bailout proposal amounted to a blank check for billions of taxpayer dollars to the Treasury to bail out banks, with no oversight or accountability. I rejected that proposal and insisted upon provisions to preserve homeownership, protect taxpayers, limit windfall payments to executives, and provide rigorous oversight. The bill that passed included those provisions, and I believe it was a necessary step to getting our economy back on track. Please feel free to go to my Senate website, www.obama.senate.gov, to read or view a video of my full remarks from the Senate floor on the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act.

We urgently need a second emergency economic stimulus plan to avert an even more serious economic recession. I will continue to call on my colleagues and the Bush administration to provide fiscal relief for state and local governments that are struggling with falling revenues and tighter credit as well as emergency investments in infrastructure to save American jobs. We must do everything we can to prevent this crisis from turning into a major economic catastrophe.

Thank you for writing. Trust that I will continue to fight for real economic relief for families and communities across America.

Sincerely,

Barack Obama
United States Senator

Yes, but he is pushing this for "main street" whatever the hell that is supposed to mean. (Talk about having "class" division blatantly shoved in our faces every day, Wall Street vs. Main Street).

He is talking about giving everyone another check from the government. I think I saw this before...

For whom is spending more the solution to an exorbitant credit card balance?

Oh yeah, well I say we need a THIRD bailout, the bailout to end all bailouts!!! This Bailout should be $150 Trillion, so we can finally end this economic disaster once and for all, and go back to consuming 25% of the world's resources.

I am so surprise that many of these polticians and bankers are still walking the planet.

You know there's going to be a breaking point and when the people go poor and hungry, look out... the PitchForks and Tourches are a comin.

Revolution is putting it mildly... I presume this is why the NAFTA/NAU has troop swapping operations. We the government can't have the American government killing it's own people.

We are in interesting times

I think he means the $1,200 (or whatever the number is) stimulus check for the American people to pay for...ironically, gas (and other energy products)...payed for by a "windfall profits tax" on the "evil oil companies".

dumb idea; the companies will just pass on the tax increase to consumers, which means higher gas prices because of the tax....and possibly even higher prices due to increased demand (because of the $1200 itself being spent on gas).

'scuse my French, but Obama has dumbass economic policies.

Why the hell do we need ANOTHER wave of "stimulus checks" when we know what happened with the last one? Yet, they could be putting out "rebate stimulus" checks EVERY MONTH and it still wouldn't be enough-and all the "money" would go straight to oil traders on Wall Street!
Then Congress will begin yet another investigation into oil companies' "obscene, record profits" without ever addressing monetary policy or the Fed.

Fox McCloud put his points perfectly. Obama (and McCain's) economic policy will be no different from Bush.

Looks to me this will be a never ending cycle-lasting the eternity of the universe! *steamed*

Actually, this isn't really surprising, because Obama's the king of wanna be over fact. Sure, there's lotsa people that want, and his economic advisers are the guys that run fanny and Freddie in the ground. It's all wishful thinking, and denial of reality. But that's what Obama is, a snake oil salesman.

Oh yeah, well I say we need a THIRD bailout, the bailout to end all bailouts!!!

One Bailout to rule them all, One Bailout to find them. One Bailout to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

I'm feeling the rope burns already.

Someone needs to remind this moron that the U.S. Government is broke!

You could also say that to McCain who wants to give another $700,000 to each of the wealthiest 2%
